I have about 7k miles on them wit no issues at all. I had a seasoned racing pro do it, and I really don't expect any either. There was no extra labor charge to install the Truetrac because he had it apart anyway. I ordered it from Summit and took it to him. Just be sure to get someone that really knows what they are doing because there's a setup involved. Its not just replacing parts..

*just a note for present and future readers interested in the 5-lug re-gear options.*

Discussions regarding re-gearing in the thread thus far, appear to be automatic transmission focused.

The below comment relates to second gen 5-lugs only.

To clarify confusion - The Auto's 3.58 final gearing shares gear parts that are easily sourced from elsewhere. Replacement components are easily sourced in terms of alternative gearing ratios. The Standard's 3.307 final gearing shares no such commonality for replacement components. You are sourcing a complete replacement third member - either a non-trd 4x4's 4.10 will do, or an aftermarket replacement from ECGS or similar. A few more dollars involved, including covering a core charge (in the case of ECGS, $400 .. they don't want your 3.307 paper-weight).

    ECGS example: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-788575-tacoma-8-4-non-eld-t100-tundra-3rd.html

Thanks for the info. Is it as simple as swapping the third member, or do you have to swap the actual gears as well? stupid question, but i'm new to all of this.

As far as i know, it's a pretty straight forward component swap. You are taking out the differential assembly, and replacing with a new assembly, rather than going into the guts of it to replace and re-shim replacement components.

This is as far as I have looked into it, up to this point. For the manual transmission 5-lug, it isn't a cheap fix. My current 225/75R16 tires at 29.3" aren't causing me acceleration issues. If i go bigger, i'll reconsider then.

I'm still very confused on what i can use from other tacos to regear my 2015 auto to the 4.10 setup

I think east coast gear supply will sell you the unit you need to change the ratio to 4:10. not absolutely sure on this. Contacting them cant hurt?

you would have to look for any 4x4/prerunner 4cyl from 2005-2015 rear third assembly. dont hold me responsible for this but i do know my 4x4 4cyl auto has 4.10 gears as did my 5spd 4x4 4cyl both 2014
