Just ordered these and they work great, fit in the factory slots, allow you to still buckle up, and keep the light and the chime from bugging the living heck out of you when you have your dog in the passenger seat, are wheeling, move 30 yards in any direction whatsoever and need to buckle your seatbelt etc

They also provide you with the more nebulous yet gratifying existential satisfaction of not having your car tell you what to do.

The dealer can turn off the seat belt chime for you. I had mine shut off as part.of the negotiations before I would take delivery.

Since you have tech stream can you tell me if the key in the ignition buzzer can be turned off or at least the volume turned down on the 2016? Thanks!

I just bought a set of thee because its a pita to buckle my side and three inches taller will make all the difference in the world. Plus it will kill the chime when I am not in the mood.

There has to be warnings for everything since we live in a sue happy nation of people that can't take blame. There is a reason they have to put a warning hot sign on the exhaust manifold.

The key chime is just an old feature that they carried over. In my first gen I have manual locks and the ignition chimes to let me know to to lock the door and close it. Although I have done it many times. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the newer Tacomas have technology to prevent you from locking your keys in the car...

There has to be a wire that can be pulled/cut to disable both the seat belt chime and the key-in-ignition chime.
Those were one of the first mods i did to my 1st gen. The seat-belt was a simple as unplugging a wire under the seat the the key-in-ignition was a simple as pulling a wire (green and orange) under the dash - I did not cut it, as I thought it would be possible that any new owner in the futire may want it. The "headlight on" chime still works, as I want that idiot reminder to.

I plan on investigating more once my truck comes in.

I also disabled the key-in-ignition chime on the company Ford Ranger and it was a easy as removing the trim around the ignition switch and moving the ground sensor away from the ignition barrel that completed the circuit when the key was put in and turned on the chime. Hoping the Tacoma uses a similar "technology" to activate the key chime. There is likely a similar method used for the seat belt - ground it and the chime is activated or ground it and the chime is off... a simple switch tapped into that wire will make the truck think you are buckled-up. Just need look under the seats and see what wire(s) run up the seat belt attachment.

I know it's probably a lot more complex with all the extra airbag safety technology stuff....But here's hoping. :)

This is on my 2013 tacoma 4door long bed. I just followed the wire on the seat belt mechanism down under the seat and unplugged it at the connection. then I re-set my maintenance light by way of the key and odometer. my belt NEVER chimes, even if I disconnect my battery. My airbag light is lit up on my dash(that's because I am sitting in the seat), but I just put a little piece of electrical tape in front of it on the guage window, and goodbye mister airbag icon! Seat belts do not need to be buckled(what if you just didn't buckle up?) for your airbags to deploy, they are not directly influenced by your seat belt, but by weight in your seat via a different set of yellow wires under the seat. Did this on the passenger side as well, since my dog jumps up there alot...worked perfectly!

I got these too for the dog, dremel tool reduced the passenger side one to a small rectangle that doesn't protrude from the OEM buckle, my boy didn't seem to like the boxy one sticking up into where he curls up. It pops out as the seat belt socket is spring loaded, goes in the coin tray when I have a two legged passenger... as for the drivers side, I left it alone, it kills the beeps for my side too. And I love it and I consider it a worthy mod it's found a new home and will likely be in the slot for the life of the vehicle. >>>> it's easier to buckle<<<<<
You don't have to wriggle your hand down there to find the little OEM one. Also has lots of side to side play making it much more comfortable, and the seat belt lays more flat across my waist. Best few bux ive spent in awhile, highly recommend to everyone. When you use it for the drivers side for the first time, you will be thanking the OP
