A speaker upgrade will result in a marginal sound improvement

I can't tell from the pictures...do the speakers use a rubber surround or a foam surround? the factory speakers from my 01 camry were rubber surround

the JBL websites itself says that the rear door speakers are strickly for mids, the front door speakers are woofers, the tweeters are for highs and then the subwoofer. furthermore, it also states that the rear drivers are 80mm (3.15")

Doesn't look like much has changed from previous years. Just do a search for JBL and you'll get the same pictures from people who pulled their speakers from their second gen tacomas, same set of speakers.

The jbl speakers are all powered by an amp and not by the head unit? That's what some in here are saying

The speakers in the JBL system are being driven by a stand alone amp. The H/U for the stock stereo and the JBL are the same other than the little JBL sticker they add to the face.

Bumping an old thread but what mounts did you guys use for the front and rear? Also, it appears that a mount is required for a new tweeter, is merv the only one that has one?

    Thanks!

I bought my speakers through Crutchfield. They give you the speaker adapters and wiring connectors for free.

I just put in kicker ks tweeters, 6x9's, and 6.5" in the truck and left a little underwhelmed with the sound they are putting out with the stock head unit (underpowered). What's the minimum I need to amplify these bad boys while keeping the stock head unit?

Whatever the RMS on the speaker says is the amount of power you need to push them cleanly.

I have speakers and an amp (see above pic) ready to hook up but everyone is saying it's not wise to amplify the HU signal without processing / cleaning it up first.
It makes sense why but I'm going to hold off probably until I get the $ for a decent one to add to the system.

Thanks for the info. So, just a 4 channel amplifier capable of delivering that is all I need?

Probably... lol. Only want to rip it apart once though and do it right.
Let us know if your happy with your set up when your done hooking it up. If you notice a big difference running just a 4 channel with speakers that's probably what I'll run

This might seen like a dumb question, but has anyone ever tried to install Bose speakers? My last car had 7 Bose speakers and it was an awesome system.

No because bose are some of the most over priced crappy speakers you can get. Bose is a name brand speaker people buy because they know nothing about speakers.

There has been a saying for Bose since they started.

    No highs
    No lows
    Gotta be Bose
