When I had a camry rental with the entune system I had the same problem, glad to know what the cause is because I'll have this same issue with the taco then when I get it.

Same here - I've got a 64gb Sandisk Cruzer Fit that is working just fine. Each album is in it's own folder and it sees them all. Several thousand songs total.

each is its own folder, but is it under one specific folder? I had the same problem and this would make sense. I had it organized by genre then artist each genre folder having over 18gb but one folder with only 4 songs, and they would play on entune but no others. This was in a camry but I imagine it would effect entune in the taco the same.

Same USB i use in my VW and the navi reads it fine in there so not the USB

I think my first folder category is artist name, then subfolders are album name, then song files

2016 Tacoma TSS. I was having same issue of it not reading all of the songs I had on the flash. What are you naming your folders? I simply tried folder 1 folder 2 etc. It says no readable files when I plug it in.

Would be nice to sort it out so I can pack all the CDs away once and for all.

That's how I did it, folders are set up by artist then album and that's how the Entune reads them

You don't mention it, so first and foremost, be sure the USB device is formatted in FAT32, and that no other files other than music, are in the root (top) directory.

Thanks for the reply. It is already FAT32 but just to be sure I formated again. Do I just drag all music files onto it or do I need to break it down in files as mentioned above? Am talking about 675 songs.

you can do this, goto itunes,
    1. create a new library select the location to be on your usb drive
    2. import all your music to new library, when complete, close itunes, eject drive and your done.

    or

easier, however youll have to copy and paste every time you add new music.
    1. Copy entire itunes library to the thumbdrive. (/Music/itunes/)

If you need to add more music just open itunes point it at the library on your usb drive and add music.

I would start small, and build up after initial success.

Be aware of the file/folder limitations:

Works like a charm. Also caused me to clean up the mess I have in iTunes. Thanks for the pointers.

Time to beat this horse some more. 2019 Taco, wont even show the USB as an option to use for media. Have it formatted to FAT32 on a windows device, two separate folders for music....nothing

Get one of these. Plenty of room for your music, small, works.

    https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128G...y&sprefix=128+sandisk+usb,aps,206&sr=8-4&th=1

    Capture.jpg

It will come formatted FAT32 right from the package.

You will need to make a bunch of folders for your music. Each folder can contain NO MORE than 199 songs. I found that .mp3 format works flawlessly. Apple format may not work - has to do with digital rights stuff o_O

    Capture2.jpg

(I named them to help me keep track of where to put what music. That way I can keep all the music I want on one stick and select the type from the head unit. I was switching out USB dongles when my kids were in the car and wanted to hear their kid music - now I can just select it by ALBUM)

    Capture3.jpg

What I circled in RED is what the head unit will display. It is in the PROPERTIES section of each file. Just FYI - you can adjust whatever you want if it is not to your liking.

What I circled in blue is what shows up under ALBUM on the head unit. I select this to play the different bunches of songs I want played. So if my kids are in the truck and they want to hear their music I simply select RS_MUSIC as the album and it will play everything that it tagged RS_MUSIC.

The way this is done is pretty simple - you open the folder that has the music you want to tag and select ALL THE MUSIC FILES. Then you right click on them and go to the PROPERTIES tab. There you click on the ALBUM name and change it to whatever you want. Once your done hit the OK button and it will change all the ALBUM sections of those files to whatever you named them. That way you can select the ALBUM name on the head unit and it will play all those songs ONLY. To go back and play every song - just go to the SONG section of the head unit and pick a song to play - it will then play everything you have on the USB drive.

I know this changes the ALBUM info of the songs but in my case it works - otherwise you get whatever the song was originally tagged with - and that could be some odd ass - new wave smooth jungle <- type tag and I never thought it was functional. This way if I want to hear nothing but DNB I set my head unit to play DEMBEATZ. If my kids want music I set the unit to play RS_MUSIC if I want all my other songs I set it to play TACO TUNES...

    Hope this help someone.

    Reviving an old thread.

I have a 2017 Sienna, 2017 Tacoma, and a 2021 Tacoma. The problem I'm having is with my 2021 Tacoma audio player. Half of the MP3 on my USB shown "unknown" on the "now playing" screen. Clicking on "song list" or "browse", the truck show the name of every file fine. I have 3 different USB drive and the 2021 Tacoma is having the same issue with all 3 USB drive. The 2017 Sienna & 2017 Tacoma display every file name on the "now playing" without any problem. I updated the audio software of the 2021 to the latest version and still same issue. Anyone having similar issue?

Also, while driving, you can browse your song on the 2017 Sienna & the 2017 Tacoma. The 2021, it won't let you do that unless the truck is stop. Any way to mod/hack this?
