We just bought a 2016 Tacoma after owning a 2003 Tundra Stepside we bought new. After we got the Tacoma home my husband was wishing he had ordered the tri fold bed cover after all. Our dealer told us that they could not install the factory cover for us. Is this the case, and if so what would other owners recommend? Thanks

Looking for a trifold, go Extang. Either trifecta or solid fold

Thanks for the advice! Is the install fairly simple for a "handy" person?

They go on in a minute or two. The cover lays on the bed rails. The front part clamps have wing nuts the rear is spring clamps

Some don't like them because it doesn't have the flush look. They will say go with a undercover flex or bak flip. I've installed many brands and I like Extang. Don't car for undercover at all, they usually fall apart in the NE from the corrosion. Bak is better but they are expensive

Good to know, we are in Wisconsin so lots of corrosion can happen. Thanks!

I just got the Diamondback SE cover and love it. Opens from the front or the rear and seems to be more secure than a lot of the other covers out there. It's a bit more pricey, but to me it is completely worth it. If you want a cover that sits flush, this might not work for you. Just throwing out another option.

I have been looking at covers since our 16 Tacoma arrived in Dec. Liked the back flip, there was a group buy deal going on here in Tacoma World. I decided to wait for the Fold a Cover G4 Elite which should be out anytime now according to the company up in Mich. It can be opened from both ends. My son has a fold a cover on his new Chev 2500 and likes it a lot. There are a few brand new take off Factory covers for sale here on TW also. Check the link below for the 16 Tacoma market place stuff for sale. Good luck

I too am waiting for the G4. My old man has one on his 2013 Taco and has no issues. I was considering the bakflip cs since I like the idea of the rack system, but after reading all the issues with the bakflips I'm going to go with the G4

Hold off on buying any cover from bak industry till they get their shit together. Extang would be the way to go right now.

I had an Extang tri-fold on my F150 and liked it, but I have read there were some fitment issues at first with the '16 Tacoma cover. Supposed to have been sorted out, but it seems to still be very sensitive to how the cover is placed on the bed rails. My F150 you could just put it on and not worry about if it was perfectly aligned or not, and I never had any problems with water getting in. There would maybe, maybe, be a little dribble around the tailgate, but after I put a tailgate seal on it was good. I didn't mind that it sat on top, it didn't stick up that far, and it kept the rain off whatever was in the bed (and people from throwing trash in the back ... assholes).

I'm going with a hardcover this time, and I'm leaning towards the Undercover Flex. My only complaint is it seems you can't use the accessory rails with it installed, and that might be a problem because I like using those for mounting my bike ... I have to do a little bit more research before I pull the trigger.

I've had a bunch of undercovers that the screws and rivets corrode and sheer off the rails and hinges of their products after 2-4 years if we have harsh winters. I don't care much for their products and try to persuade customers to different brands of possible

I have an Access lorado soft top. Very easy to roll up and full access to the bed (literally takes 30 seconds).

However it is not 100% waterproof with a powerwash.

If you want more solid, secure installation very similar to the stock cover go with the extang 2.0 solid fold. Installation looks amazingly simple. No rails to attach. The only downfall I see if having to completely remove it for full access to the entire bed. But the stock cover has the same issue.

I just purchased a BakFlip VP for my 2016 limited. The box arrived and the next day I took the afternoon off from work. I lit my garage furnace, got my garage nice and warm and went to work . Didn't take long to realize I didn't have all the parts I needed. Manufacturer forgot to pack them . Called customer service. Can't say the rep was rude, let's just say he couldn't of cared less about my predicament. Said they would send me the rest of the parts if I e-mailed them and reminded them to do so. So, I sent the message, asked for a confirmation message to tell me when (or if) the parts are being sent. Five days and I 've heard nothing. Don't know when the parts will come, if they do. The cover seems to be good quality, but I cannot put it on without the parts. For $710.00, I sure am not happy about this. Just another example of the worsening level of customer service in companies now.

Truxedo Lo pro QT, soft roll up, lifetime guarantee and simple instillation and 99% waterproof, just need a lil silicone for the front edges of the factory bed rails. Had my last one 10 years and still going when I traded it in.
