ok this may be a stupid question but I plan on moving up to 2nd or third gen in the next month or so and for reference I did use the search function and also have been checking Google. called the dealership and got 2 different answers one said no and the other one (female employee) said ummmmm I think so which pretty much meant she had no clue. So hear is my ? does the new 2016's with the 4x4 TRD off road package come with rear lockers like previous models? asking to some one that has one thanks

Yes. TRD off road has an electronic controlled locker.

It is however different than the locker in your photo as the 2016 is an internal controlled locker.

I have owned four Toyotas but this is my first with a locker. In other posts people talk about having to drive forward while turning to get the locker to engage. That make sense to me as it spins each axle at a different speed. My question is when you are in hill climb situation and you loose traction because one wheel is spinning and one is not moving at all, will the locker engage properly because the axles are moving at different speeds? Seems like it should but I would like to know for certain.

Yes it will. I have always lived by rule you can't have enough traction so lock it in and forget it. Unless unlocking is required to make a tight turn. If I am making a hill climb with loose, slick or ledges I am going to have the locker engaged before I attempt.

Perfect thanks friend! I have often lost traction on steep climbs in my past Toyotas. I always wished I had a locker but past financial situations always had me buying used 4banger SR's. Looking so forward to locking the rear and making it up in one attempt vs trying multiple lines to get the traction right.

Yeah my crawler is spoiled in the rear and has a grizzly in the front. My Cummins has a track lock in the rear and a power lock in the front so I'm going to have a learning curve with the selectable rear and open front. If it doesn't suit me I'll just go with grizzly lockers in both ends and never think of it again.
