its indoor/outdoor carpet (on mine at least) and so far its been on there 6 months and the only smell I have is from what I put back there occasionally. if youre worried about that kinda thing you can probably get a spray bottle with some sort of cleaner in it to spray around every few months. I guess anything CAN develop some mildew, but I haven't experienced it yet. maybe someone whos had theirs for years can chime in.

I don't know who ATC is but anything under $1,000 is a good deal for a good quality cap.

Got a SnugTop Rebel...like the looks of a Quicksand with a topper...new style rotary latch, dropdown front window, headliner with dome led, side sliders with screens, price was $2022 all inclusive with tax...one thing to mention for you guys is that they remove the front bed "crossbar" and re bed and seal it as this is a problem on Tacomas...

    HI TacoSeattle,

Could you elorborate on what you mean by "remove the front bed crossbar and re bed and seal it" because I am chasing leaks down on my 2016 Long Bed with a Leer 100XL right now.

Did you remove the front cross bar and silicon it and then reinstall?

I know the gap between the side and front rails has a gap that needs to be filled.

    Thanks

8102 - The techs at Kanopy Kingdom here in Fife near Seattle do this automatically on every tacoma install. According to them it is a constant source of leakage and they do it before installing the canopy for free. The front "crossbar" comes off by taking out those screws that can be seen holding it on. They completely "silicone" underneath, on the front lip, and in those two open spots at the end of the bar. The SnugTop also has a rubber dropdown lip at the front to help cover the gap and SnugTop uses an on canopy multiple rubber seal.

Their installation appears to be leak free but I have some leakage around the tailgate area which is a Tacoma problem and not the Canopy. Interesting, the water from the tail gate area is actually "sucked" forward up the bed towards the front. Must be how the air circulates within the canopy while underway.

Hope this helps, and if I am not clear please ask again.

Update: Here is a photo of the Tech sealing the front crossbar and area.

    Cheers

    HI Del,

Thanks for the info, will definitely be doing the same to mine.

I might be able to help you with the leak your having in the hatch area, my installer cut the liner material back from the canopy at the back of the canopy where the canopy, tailgate, and rear hatch "meet" along the ledge below the side windows, this stopped water from running down the channels on either side of the rear hatch and "wicking" along the ledge below the side windows which were always wet. The fix seems to have worked.

Here is a picture showing where they trimmed the material, you will notice some of the adhesive still stuck to the white paint of the canopy after the liner material was removed.

Here is another picture which shows where water comes in under the plastic cap on top of the side rail. This plastic cap has to come off and have a bead of silicon run the length of the box between it and the metal of the sides of the box which this finishing cap snaps into place on top of. Water pours into the box from here when you flush out dirt from under the lip of the canopy where it overhangs the outside of the box with a garden hose (thanks Toyota)

Thanks - I will look into these areas too. For everyone who is having a cap installed, write in your paperwork that the front crossbar rail, and the two fore-aft bed rail caps all need to be removed and sealer put under them before the cap is put on.

It's a Jason Work Force Cab Hi Premium shell we picked up slightly used and only 500 miles away. It took a year to find and it's almost exactly what we were looking for. I dare say it looks better on the Tacoma.
