Best brand of brakes for Tundra brake upgrade

Really looking to do this upgrade right as brakes are kind of an important safety feature. Any recommendations on best brand to get? Heavy truck with a ton of armor, need the best.

OEM rotors and pads (get online at discount OEM dealer like Toyota of Dallas) and Napa Eclipse calipers - they're coated so no need to worry about rust.

 

Akebono pads are probably the best there are. and im including OEM in the thought pool

 

well since that kit specifically says it will not fit or work on 2004 Tacoma trucks and you cant install it on your truck, why are you thinking of buying it?

 

With all due respect did you read the thread title? I am doing the Tundra brake upgrade, I am using Tundra calipers, pads and rotors. Very well known mod to increase braking. Even you said "did you do the tundra brake upgrade? that's what you need." I'm lost, you are confusing me.....

 

I have the same exact truck as you. If it's a Tundra brake upgrade then of course it's going to say that it won't fit a 04 Tacoma. But it's still ok cause it's the Tundra brake upgrade.

didn't want the OP to any "oops its not the same as tundra oem so its not going to fit" moments, that's all

I am aware oem tundra calipers will fit the Tacoma, and that is what he is trying to do, but when ever you go with generic aftermarket stuff, you just never know for sure it has the same "exact" clearances until its 100% confirmed is all im saying

that's just it, if you use this kit you linked to, then you are NOT using oem tundra brake calipers, pads and rotors but rather aftermarket items designed to be oem upgrades to them. they "might" be a little different clearances to things is all im cautioning about.

I am not sure of how much "extra" room there is to allow for aftermarket parts variations in size and clearance on our rims. you sound like you already know this kit fits so its a moot point now.

 

OP if you like power stop I think this kit as a hell of a deal. AutoZone sells the clippers for $80 each and there high end rotors for $75 each. Plus $60 for the best pads. That's the same as this kit and my experience with them hasn't been great. I'm currently switching to ebc green stuff and there rotors.

you can use that extra $80 savings to buy the ss brake lines and lots of beer to celebrate the new upgrade

 

Brakes work by changing kinetic energy to heat energy which is then sucked up by the metal mass of the rotor or drum. Drilling/slotting reduces that mass, making the brakes less effective.

True, they will cool quicker, giving minimally faster repetitive braking ability, but will fade quicker, leaving you with a longer stopping distance when you need the shortest.

 

I wish I had bought these now. Would have saved a lot and probably gotten better parts to boot. Do it.

 

They also allow heat to dissipate fast by increasing the amount of surface area that the heat can be distributed into the air through. They can be good, IF they are the same amount of metal with more surface area and not a standard rotor with pieces cut off and out.

 

Thanks all, I am going to go with the Powerstop ones, ordering from Amazon and that way I can keep my calipers in case I end up not liking it for some reason. The summit one charges $80 for the core fee in addition to the $299.

where are you getting your ss brake lines from? you really shouldn't do the upgrade without them IMHO
