I will consider the RL when its out. It's payload and towing is pretty much in line with the Tacoma and other mid size trucks. It will be interesting to see if the new RL will have as many complaints by owners as the 3G have posted regarding the Tacoma. The posts are one reason I have held off buying a Tacoma. If the RL has a better ride, within price range of the Tacama, it will definitely be considered.

I still have a need for a bed which pickups provide. I just don't do the 4x4 travel I use to do. AWD will fit my needs.

The old RL did come with a temp spare tire. The compartment is large enough for a full size to be stored in the same area. Many have stated the 2G RL should be able to do the same.

I know Honda is trying to break into the midsize market with this "Thing" that looks like someone took the front clip from a Honda Accord and stuck it onto a truck cab. Looks like crap to me! And who in their right mind as a Tacoma owner would ever consider owning one over a Tacoma...I just don't see it. Ground clearance sucks, but I guess if you never take it off road it's not an issue.
As for the concept Nissan, if I want a comfortable and reliable full size truck I will get a Tundra and then consider a Dodge. Love Nissan cars, but not their trucks.

Ridgeline? No fuckin way. Insult to all other real trucks. It's a car with an open bed - like cutting the rear roof off of a 60s galaxie 500 wagon. NO SALE!

The Nissan, well it is an actual truck, a nice looking one so it must run in the 60k range. They found a way to have skid plates on all 4 sides. Maybe later whenever the government gets around to paying off my mortgage like they said they would back in 2008........

    Let's see.
    Possible better ride.
Possible it will be quicker, carry as much weight and tow the same.
Don't need the off road capabilities of a Tacoma, but have a need for a open bed.
As far as looks, read the 3G thread early on. What comments were made about the 3G Tacoma looks, especially the grill.?

Not everyone one goes off road with their vehicles. AWD may be a good alternative.

The RL will never replace a Tacoma. imo, Honda is targeting a different user that Toyota.

Yep, I do see your points. I should have stated that I was not trying to change anyone's opinion. I do know that this new vehicle will appeal to a variety of people, just not many Tacoma owners IMHO. I'm just not a fan of Honda styling.

    I will chime in...;)

Having owned both a 1st gen Taco and a Ridgeline at the same time I can say they both had their "days"...

The Taco was the work horse in a small package and the Ridge was a Pilot with a very functional box ( add the rabbit cover like I had and WOW  )

I can NOT go back to an extra cab ( grand kids are grown  ) and IF I replace the RX with a truck ,4 doors and ROOM are a must.

The best thing about both of them, TOP resale $$$$$$$

Yes , when time comes we will look at 4 door Taco's and Ridgelines as we have had good luck with both. :fistbump:

I liked my 06 Tacoma. It was a great truck for me. I was looking at buying a 2016 Tacoma. While many people may not have issues with the 3G, there are enough posters here that do. That is enough for me to hold off for at least a 2017 Tacoma or look at alternatives.

I have a full size Dodge Ram. It has been ok. I just don't need that big of a truck anymore. I miss the mid size. I have looked at the GMC/Chevy and was not that impressed. Maybe Nissan will come out next year with a new Frontier. Though they would have to improve the turn radius. It is terrible in the current model.

One should purchase a vehicle that suits them. Toyota builds good vehicles. I just want to see them sort out some of the first year bugs on the 3G before I consider purchasing. My 09 Ram only has 50K on it. So I am in no hurry.

I think it's pretty cool all around. Was looking at new Pilots for the wife, and I was very impressed with the new vs. outgoing model. I think this would be every bit as functional for me as my taco, and have a far superior on-road ride. My taco rides like a damn ox cart, and I never go off-road or have any need for a rock climbing 4WD set up.

Totally subjective, but at first glance I like the styling MUCH better than 2 gen or 3 gen taco. Very clean, IMO. The 3 gen taco to me (especially the snoopy dog snout) is just a silly looking festival of unnecessary humps, bulges, plastic doodads and add-ons. As I steadily become more & more an old fart, I would just feel ridiculous driving around in something like that.

Anyway, more choices is always good!

I would take a Pilot over this, the bed just looks weird and out of place.

From the reviews I've read/watched, it looks like it will be a great light duty truck for the average suburbanite. If you're average weekend comprises runs to the hardware store, or towing a small boat/atv, or maybe running on some dirt roads, then it's right up your alley.
The problems for me are that you don't get any of the nice options unless you go up to the top 2/3 trim levels, which will get you close to $40k. Compact spare is a downfall if you are on dirt roads a lot, or towing. I also don't like the shallow bed, and lack of a lockable tailgate.
Overall, I'll reserve final judgement until we get some towing reviews, and the option to build and price it on line. I have a feeling it's going to cost significantly more than a Taco or Colorado for what I would want.

You think the new Ridgeline that only makes an attempt at being a truck by having a bed is better than the old one? Lol at least the old one tried harder at being a truck. Id never drive either and I think they're both pretty ugly, but I'd much rather drive the old one

That's why it drops down in the traditional tailgate way too...
Have fun reaching over your tailgate to get at things in the bed...
