We went out to Azusa yesterday for some mudding and water crawling. It was great, until we met Mark. Mark is a new 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 owner. We drove through the lake and he guided me up the bank, which was under water, for my first time up it. He has the MGM DCSB seen here.

He asked if he could borrow my keys to see if they would start his truck. He showed me that he only had the door key portion attached to his key ring. He had lost the fob portion somewhere in the mud. He was desperate to at least get the wheel to unlock so he could be towed to the staging area. We popped the Neutral Position Lock and got it into neutral for tow but could not unlock the steering wheel.

Mark got in with the resident recovery rig and started driving around to where he had been during the day. He finally found the fob laying in the mud in a spot where they had previously stopped. See Joey and Mark after they found the key.

I came home and couldn't find a ring small enough so I bent this one up to fit through. Does anyone have a better solution? 5c0110fd4be0b3e211186b5b528e6b24_fc844a6bfe82330dcbf861da4e7f846a0ac4c12c.jpg

I had the fob come off the key in my pocket the week before. I didn't think about it coming off outside my pocket, though

wow, poor design, really poor. ok, back to google search......or use the thicker side of the tether to attach to fob then the thinner on to attach to key.

Yeah I had my fob randomly come off the key the other day at work. I wouldn't have even noticed unless one of my coworkers told me it had fallen off and was on the floor. lol

I never take mine out of my pocket. Don't have anything hanging on it, just the fob by itself.

Think the op means his door key is separating from the smart key since the ring is on the door key instead. Or that ring in the corner, the key is separating and opening up and falling out thus losing the key not sure how that would work

When you put the ring or anything through the fob slot, the slot is molded in halves so when the ring twists the fob cracks open

What I figured. They haven't really changed those keys since the second gen Prius came out. Stupid design and I dislike the ergonomics of the remote. Don't like the shape or the button layout

Goodness gratios. #'rd gen concerned about a key ring. My second gen fellows just used everything under the sun to make it work. We didn't need the 'INTERNETS' to get answers. We are men.

I would assume the second key is for his Honda.
