280,000 on my 97 when I sold it same rears it came with (rear brakes unless they are loaded) don't do much. Have a look at really big stuff like dump trucks tractor trailer trucks yep drum brakes. There is a reason for that drum brakes are self energizing the rotational energy helps apply them.

Cute but fairly useless for the effort and expense.

I was suspicious when I saw the M/T drag radials. Great looking FAST truck.

    What engine are you running?

That is tough on the ego.

In this area there are some quick S10 pickups with LS power even saw a Fox body Mustang with a LS engine in it at the drags. It had a two stage nitrous set up although I don't remember what shot each stage was.

Congrats on a fine truck or trucks since you have a Taco also.

I did the conversion on mine while doing an axle swap. I used the front calipers off an 04 taco on the back of my 05, and they are fairly balanced. I just have a couple turns on the wilwood prop valve to get all four to lock up at the same time. I can squall 37's at highway speeds on dry pavement no problemo. Using porterfield racing carbon kevlar pads with the R4 compound.

Yeah I was just looking to see if it was a cheap way to do it. Does not look like it's going to happen

Ive read countless post on how drums are better out back and pointless to go to discs on the Tacoma and their better for offroad and so on and so on.

That being said, why does Toyota put discs out back on the T4R? Isn't the T4R a more equipped and capable offroad vehicle (even though no one buys them for that).

The Landcruiser has had disks in the rear since 1993. I would argue the 80 series line is the most capable Toyota ever made, coming from the factory with lockers front and rear, maintaining a solid axle up front until 97, coil and link suspension, sold in world markets like Africa and South America, etc etc. Drums cut production costs, not stopping distances.

I think the argument is for the trouble you are going through it really isn't worth it only to get a slightly better breaking. The best advantage is really being able to keep the brakes locked up wheeling, Your better off upgrading to a 6pot front caliper if your looking for normal braking performance

Well yeah, I wouldnt update it after the fact. What I am trying to understand is why everyone says drums are better for offroad, which is arguable, but then Land Cruisers and T4R comes with discs all the way around and theyre way more capable offroad...

Maybe because of the design of the drum being somewhat sealed and easy to maintain? I don't see a huge advantage besides not getting little rocks stuck in-between the rotor and dust shield making a terrible noise haha

FJ80 series was produced from 1991-97. The FJ60 was made in the eighties.

Thats got to be the only reason. Drums are stupid simple and last forever. Theyre really not hard to work on. Just need a good set of needle nose pliers. I keep a piece of string handy too. Easier to pull the springs with string than trying to pull with pliers.

Easier than string or needle nose pliers.
