A few smallies... Maybe I'll get a bit more fishing in this coming summer. Last summer was a little slim on the fishing front.

So went hunting for grey squirrels this morning. No luck at all sat close to what looked like 3 nests for 10 or 15 min.

But I did see these guys. Got locations marked incase I get drawn for the turkey hunt on this WMA.

edit: crap can’t really see them, but saw a bunch of turkeys! Trying to post video now.

A lot more meat than crappie, and pretty much like tilapia by way of texture and flavor.

I caught one on a rattle frog last year...I also got a couple on a fake worm, but not all at the same time. So I just let them go. I'll have to try and get enough for dinner and see how they turn out.

Easiest game fish I have around here. I like walleye, but I find them a bit hard to stay on top of with my kayak. I find smallies pretty easy prey as long as I know what they are feeding on and where. Around here, that's usually small crawdads or small fish, and where is often the hard part of the equation. I fish mostly crank baits and swim baits for bass, but sometimes I have to go to tubes or spinners. We have a 12" minimum size and some days I catch an awful lot of small ones for each keeper.

we have a big lake nearby where I live and there are small and largemouth bass, no walleye that I know of. I miss TX with freshwater stripped bass and white bass...those were fun to catch! I do concentrate on breaking my Big mouth bass record but I havent done it since;)

Didn't get to eat that one. I would have had to drag it 1/2 mile up a steep canyon side through waist high manzanita and brush. In 6 years of pig hunting it's only the second one I've ever had to leave. We have a depredation permit so we kill 50-100 hogs every year on the ranch.

After my grandmother passed last year, I asked if I could have my grandpa's (he passed in '94) old rods and reels. The old wooden rods were shot and reels were corroded with the salt and humity of Corpus Christi, Tx. I remember these rods when I was a kid and they were always in the garage. I know they are older than me, so decided to fix them up so I could use them. I spent close to 4 hours on each of them. Here are some before and after shots of my Penn No. 9 and Penn No. 303. Now it's time to get them internally cleaned, so I can finally use them.
