All these low on fluid posts are driving me nuts lol
Where is my guinea pig ?
Need one of you guys to roll the dice and overfill your transmission at home using WS fluid
Once again , this has to be a member that went to the dealer to get his transmission topped off and is still suffering a delay from reverse to drive .
?????? I know you are out there

Only problem I'm having is the delay from R to D when cold and I honestly think this is a programming issue rather than fluid.

From the ones that have experienced the delay from R to D could this be the cause . I saw this in the thread tips and tricks

#47 If you put the truck in reverse while driving at around 35 mph (tested by a forum member in this thread, see his video), the truck goes into neutral instead of reverse as a safety feature.

I'm going to try to get the dealer to check my fluid at the 5k check up. I have the R-D issues, but also notice lag when slowing down to turn in to a driveway then pushing the gas.

Also, I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, so it might be normal, however when I Park and turn off the truck I hear a very loud "click" type noise. Like the tranny banging together or something. Anyone else experience this?

I was wondering if there is also a mistake with the procedure in the manual. It has a thermostat on the side of the transmission for the cooler. Same setup on the Tundra, but on the Tundra they have you pin the t-stat in so it will bypass it and run fluid to the cooler. Wondering if it should be the same way with the Tacoma. When I check my fluid this week Im going to check it without it bypassed to see how low it was, then bypass it and see how much more it needs.
I get an occasional delayed shift when the transmission is cold, but usually get a decent surging in reverse.

I agree about having balls to try this too .
Not many transmissions have valve body protection for reverse while going forward other than police cars . Police cars use to have lock outs in the valve body called abuse valves because those wild police officers were continuously destroying transmissions.
If you think about the valve body machining involved to add this type of prevention to the hydraulic circuit , most manufacturers wont add it .
If Aisn Seiki has added it to the AC60 , thats pretty cool !
Wish I could look through the hydraulic circuit of the new transmission as it would answer a lot of questions

Yes , please try this . What is strange is why some dealers are filling properly and other dealers still send some members out the door with a low fluid condition .
I thought about this as well but I dont have a 2016 in front of me to test the theory . Is the external thermostat on the new Tacoma able to be bypassed by pinning ?
If the procedure requires pinning the external stat , some technicians may have skipped this step because the 2015 didnt have an external thermostat .
It could be the answer we are looking for .
Maybe the technician didn't know about the new external thermostat and checked the transmission fluid as if he was checking the fluid on a 2015 model .
The difference would be about a 3/4 of a quart which would definitely cause a delay to drive
We are getting closer to an answer gentleman

Just had my first experience with the slipping this evening (600 miles). As another stated it had sat for about four hours and when going from r to d it had the delay which mine has had from day one but it actually slipped this time. Pressed the gas, motor revved a bit and then caught the gear. Not a good feeling on a new truck. Have a appointment set up already Saturday to have my rear window seals replaced will have them check it while there at it.

Okay, I had my Tacoma for about over a month. Been having low mpg 12.5-13. Started noticing the slip from reverse to drive only when I start out in the morning. My driveway has a slight incline. Today I thought I reverse into something in the parking lot. Oh, it was just my truck slipping from reverse to drive. Maybe it's still learning my driving habits. I'm hoping that's the case.

Mine makes a huge clank. And super poor mileage. Brakes appear to be locking up. Purchased it on December 22nd, service department has had it longer than I have....

Front driveline replaced. Now they are replacing all the rear brake components and leaf springs.

So far it's the coolest looking and most expensive lawn ornament I have ever purchased...

Beginning to wonder if there is some computerized interaction. Some observations of things that don't seem right:

Random brake lockup on each wheel.

Crawl control throttled motor to over 5k RPM

Hill assist let's truck roll backwards 20 to 40ft before engagment.

Satellite radio reception is horrible and has static.

Cell phone reception is horrible when the truck is running. Actually puts phone into no-service mode and locks up my phone.

ABS simply doesn't work, hit the brakes hard, wheels lock up, pump doesn't activate.

    Brake assist doesn't work.

Transmission fluctuates between gears 3,4,5 for two to three second intervals at even the lightest change in grade or throttle pedal input.

When I get in the truck it calls me Dave and asks if I would like to play chess.
    .
