The way the weather guessers are calling it, they won't have to deal with much mud this weekend. I may try to heat up the garage and go ahead with my truck. Just didn't want to deal with the ice and snow melting all over me if I pulled it in the garage this morning. 20 years ago, I'd have said what the hell and did it in the driveway, snow or no snow....I'm getting soft in my old age.

I probably won't be up to Slade until the semester is over. Trying to save miles on my baby if I can.

Not driving your truck to save miles is like like not banging your girlfriend because she's appealing to another guy.

200 miles and a time change makes for a crummy weekend of driving.

If there is snow this weekend, it won't be much. My Dopler weather knee says so.

I'm about 70 minutes drive east of Slade/RRG area.

The only thing I've seen is light snow early Saturday and 1-3 inches Monday. The In- House meteorologist at my school says there's no chance over the weekend. And he's only been wrong twice since he's been here

The prevailing rumor was that Blue Holler ORP was shut down by EPA because of contaminated water infiltrating Mammoth Caves. Apparently nothing that involved......The owners were feeling the pressure of liability and/or lack of adequate insurance.....and decided to shut 'er down. I understand the property is now up for sale. After being involved in a similar situation years ago, with a piece if real estate that was used as a club grounds for a dirt bike club, it will be almost impossible to keep people off the property. Now the liability will be from owning what the legal system refers to as "an attractive nuisance".

They keep saying on their Facebook that they're trying to resolve the "issue".

I'm not crazy about the park but I don't want to see it close. Those bounty hills would have made it world famous lol.

Years ago, we went through a number of really fantastic trails that were state owned property. (In Indiana where I used to live) Once one fell, it became like domino's......One after the other. For whatever reason, I hate to see any of these places being forced to shut down. Be it liability insurance cost, EPA enforcement, etc....It's bad for business when any of them close.

I hope you're wrong :fingerscrossed:. Their website was down yesterday; haven't checked it today.

It's right between school and home from the north and south for me so it's literally one of the only places under an hour to ride.

Guess I'll have to start stretching my legs more and hit up LBL more often.

Slowly but surely putting together the story of Blue Holler ORP. Seems the land itself is owned by an area lawyer. He's been taking a lot of heat from residents because of noise, people riding ATV's on the road, mud being tracked out to the road, and general shenannigans that'll happen around a place where you have minimal supervision and a few hell raisers.

There is a great deal of animosity between neighbors and the leasee after what was apparently an out-of-control "concert/festival" that took place on the property last summer. That has contributed in a large part to the bad blood with locals.

The lawyer leases the ground to a 2nd party who runs the off road park. It appears that neither the lawyer, or the 2nd party involved will not, or cannot provide adequate insurance coverage going forward to satisfy the land OWNER that his personal liability is covered. Hence, the "too much personal liability to assume" claim that has been made.

Bottom line, I wouldn't expect it to reopen any time soon. And it may be that we never hear the entire story.

I've "BTDT" in a simular situation involving land where a club I once belonged to held dirt bike races. (Hare Scrambles) The land owner wasn't satisfied that we were providing him with enough supervision of the site, nor were we capable of paying for enough insurance to protect both the club's interest, AND that of the land owner. At some point, it's all about the dollars......

Has anyone ever been to Wildcat Adventure Off Road Park in East Bernstedt (Laurel County)? I'm thinking it looks to only be an ATV park but I could be wrong.

I've rode dirt bikes there years ago before it was an ORP. Haven't been there since the mid '90's. My neices boyfriend is into sideXsides BIGTIME. He's rode there and says it's VERY muddy most of the year, and VERY tight, even for ATV's and sideXsides.

I'm looking into purchasing some property around that area. I was hoping to know if there are more perks than being close to the cheapest gas station in the state.
