@PcBuilder14 I see, I'm not on the 2 day trip level yet. But it does sound fun.

So you keep it plugged in all day and night?

Yup, as long as you have a reliable power source.

I'm sure it could work as long as you're using the solar panel to charge a battery that the fridge is hooked up to. I don't think that the solar panel alone would be sufficient enough. But I haven't looked into solar panels in a while.

Depends on what battery you put inside, but with a large enough battery, good weather, and a good solar setup I don't see why this couldn't be sustained for at least a week without hooking back up to a larger charging source.

Thanks, I'm just trying to figure what I would need to make it worth having. I have a generator, but can't really run that at night. Best solution is to power it from the truck battery when moving and power it from a second battery at night. But the second battery would need to recharge during the day, that's why I solar panels came to mind.

Edit: the more I think about it, I'm not ready for this yet.. I've only done (2) 4-hour trails so far. An Ice-cooler would be enough for me for 1-night. However when I'm ready for a multi-day adventure I will have to take this into consideration.. Thanks for all the info gents.

    True.

I'll be setting up the annex most of the time now that my dog will be going along with me. Need somewhere to let him sleep without getting dog hair all over the tent...

I'm running mine off an Arkpak 730. It's basically a battery box with a monitoring system, charger and peripheral device output for DC as well as a 300wt inverter. Since I'm running a 128ah battery in the Arkpak and the Indel B (50L) uses around approx 1.35 amps per hour, that would be around 94hrs of fridge run time (approx) depending on opening/closing of the cooler lid which could start the compressor to kick on and drive amp draw a little higher. So...on average...:)

If its mounted to your truck and you're using it as the power source/truck battery.. and you're still driving it everyday for a couple hours, wouldn't that suffice with keeping the fridge running?

I'm not running a dual battery setup although it can be ran that way, and then the truck alternator would charge the secondary as well. I'm running it as a stand alone setup. I just drag it to my tent area and run my electrical with it. Nothing heavy duty. Just enough to run the fridge, run some LED lights and charge my daughters iPad...lol

I think you're saying...running it in the truck off the DC? That would be fine in your situation. The fridge has a smart monitoring system and should cut off if the truck battery drops too low. Good idea to monitor your truck battery voltage should you go that route for any extended period of time.

You can always run a cheap solar setup to prolong the period between charges as well

Just buy a DC outlet on Amazon and wire it to the truck battery. Slap it in the bedside and plug it in...:D
