I have no idea what you guys are talking about lol. Hopefully once we get these fridges I will see different methods of powering it up.

For those of you wanting it, I'm pretty sure the Ironman 4x4 wireless fridge thermometers will work with these fridges. Once I get my fridge I'll try it out.

    Here's the thermometer:

They run about $30-40 shipped through various online retailers.

If you don't like the green, Engel also has the exact same unit for roughly the same price with red trim. Looks like these are probably all made in the same factory with different branding/colors.

I would love to use solar. But the downside for me is that everything would be getting charged by the alternator/battery during the day and then I need something to power stuff at night while I'm camping.

Isn't the solution for everybody, but I think dual batteries will work best for my application.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Would the second battery be in the bed or would you try to have it fitted under the hood?

With the amount of weight already in the engine bay and the issue of our fenders barely being strong enough to support one battery in rough conditions, I plan to run the secondary battery in the bed inside my toolbox.

I'm seriously considering installing both batteries in that location to free up space in the engine bay. Not sure yet.

This won't happen until after this Summer though.

So to be clear, i could just get a battery like this one and just run it to the bed via a DC connector, hook the fridge up and then forget about it?

Dual Ham Radio, CB, BlueSea FuseBlock, additional USB ports, two plugs to power refrigerators, solar.
I don't think that is an AGM Deep Cycle battery. If it is yes you are good to go. If that is just a big Group 31 starting battery then no. You need a Deep Cycle battery of some type. Optima, Odyssey, Northstar, X2 (Northstar) from Batteries Plus, etc. When adding a 2nd battery to your vehicle things get a bit more complicated. You can go the cheap $50 Dual battery setup (See expeditionportal.com) or get Bluesea, National Luna, blah blah blah. I had a NL setup and eventually removed it. I now have an ArkPak with an YellowTop 34 in it so it isn't too heavy. Less power reserve but that's fine. Plenty of DIY battery boxes as well on YouTube. Your "Then forget about it" statement. How will you keep the battery charged? Are you just going to run it down and then recharge when you get home?

Im not sure if it's an AMG Deep Cycle.. so i wont comment on that part just yet.

When i said forget about it i was implying i'd keep the battery on a tender whenever i wasnt using it. I'll have to look into DIY battery boxes, as i dont want a complicated setup, just something simple that'll get the job done.

I'm pretty sure this is what ckole is talking about.

If you want a dual battery setup for cheap then this is the way to go. Nothing fancy at all.

Yes, definitely get a deep cycle. They are able to handle a lot more electrical load and getting drained down and charged all the way back up won't hurt them like a starter battery.

they are two agm 34r and i just built a battery cage for them and got a 500 amp isolater so that i can self jump myself (it was 15$ upgrade for the bigger so why not:D) i also did the big three and the isolator is set up so i have the battery's connected to charge together when the truck is running and off when the truck is off, i can switch them to not be connected at all, and i can switch them to always be connected so i can self jump myself

I'd love to get a Die Hard battery from Seats, but they're getting hard to come by. So I think when the time comes I'll be trying an Optima Yellow Top D31.

That one would work, but it's still a starting battery. They're are deep cycle ones, but you may have to look up under marine batteries.
