I would have spent the money moving to a place where my car doesn't get broken into constantly.

You could get a cap and get the bed set up as a sleeping area.

    Same as everybody else...
I'm not gonna get into a Tacoma vs the world debate but will say that my wife drives a 07 Sante Fe everyday for her job. So far she has about 160k troublefree miles. Other than normal fluid changes and brakes etc it's been very reliable.

I live in the San Gabriel Valley, it's in a ghetto city, but housing is affordable.

I work in construction doing special inspections. Sometimes I travel quite far to the jobsite. I just took on a night shift gig and also a day shift thats not too far away. If I head home to try and get some sleep, by the time I get home, I will have about 30 mins to hour of sleep and then I'm back out the door for the day job. If I sleep in my vehicle, I could at least get 2-4 hours of sleep in. I carry about 300 lbs worth of equipment that takes up half of the bed.

My job pays quite well and I am saving up to move. I may move out of state.

I agree that there should be smaller offerings... but it still has to be a truck.

This is a great idea, but I carry a lot of expensive equipment.

Wow, how small is your garage? One of the main reasons I got a Tacoma was to fit in my small garage. I didn't think they had garages smaller than mine.

I can fit an access cab in my garage with 1 -2" to spare literally... that's why I got regular cab. My neighbor has access cab and he does it, but now he parks outside the garage. So yeah...small garage isn't fun, but it's available for where I'm at...

Obviously it doesn't pay that well or you wouldn't be working numerous jobs.

    Sorry for your pain.

I only choose these jobs if they are worth working.

My Regular cab fits with about 6'' to spare. I saw some houses in the Inland Empire and those garages are HUGE. Housing is about the same as it is where I live, but I worry about insane commute since most of my work is in the west side. Riverside to Santa Monica? No thank you, that commute already takes me about 2.5 hours during rush hour.

There's nothing new under the sun. 1978. Subaru Brat.

Listen man, these 4 wheeled dinosaur-juice burners are just tools. The one you had, your Taco was a great tool but it was a hammer and now you need a saw. You can try to do a saw's work with a hammer, but the results are usually not great. I had a nice 4x4 with a slide-in camper 6 years ago, then I got a job with a commute and vary scarce vacation. So my truck became a daily driver that cost me over $60/week just for gas (may not seem like alot to many of you). And I never had time to use the camper anymore. Sold 'em and bought a soul-less little base Matrix. But it was a way better tool for what I needed at the time.

Us first-worlders get all wrapped up in the culture around the vehicles we drive. They become a reflection of our values and I guess style or whatever. They are a symbol of our success, or our identity. Here on this forum we're playing around with being in the 2nd Gen Taco club. But when it comes right down to it, the stupid things are just costly tools. Good for you for making a choice that's right for your needs right now. Things could change with you, and there will still be Toyota trucks around when one can suit you better.

    Enjoy that Brat!

I enjoyed mine, a '79 I bought new. I sold it last fall, still running and driving and... rusting.
