    So I've noticed a strange sound coming from my vents. It sounds like something in there is trying to self adjust. It sounds like a cd player trying to read a burned cd. Like it's trying to "focus" or something. I can hear it with the air off mainly. any ideas?

    I dont know if this is the similar noise you're talking about, but from time to time I'll hear a whining or like some sort of higher pitched vibration ? I haven't heard it in a while though

    My dash sounds like there are 2 mice violently fucking inside. It's kinda hot so I've haven't looking into fixing it.

    I think this is actually a common problem, hopefully someone else can chime in, I don't have much information myself.

    With a first gen - I'd be surprised if you DIDN'T have noises coming from your dash. Mine seem to change with the seasons :)

    @Trapperr

    I think the noise has something to do with the climate control thermostat which opens and closes the fresh air intake door. Mine makes the same noise if the both the weather is mild AND the thermostat is turned all the way to cold. I think what is happening is that the high and low trigger temperature overlap or are too close together causing short cycle of the fresh air intake.

    The workaround is that if you turn the thermostat one click toward warm the noise goes away. I'm not sure of a permanent fix. I've seen it discussed on the forum in the past.

    I've seen pictures of mouse carcasses on the cabin air filter, could there be a connection?

    Good call. My control knob is always set to heat when I hear it. I'll try a little towards cold when I hear it next time i drive.

    remove your fan. it's 3 bolts under your glove box. see if anything fell into it.

    check out your blend door and/or motor. they may be malfunctioning.

    thats all that can come from the vents. good luck!

    LoL. I just noticed you were in Reno. That makes sense. I think the thermostat gets confused when the outside temperature is very close to the knob temperature. For me it happens at the colder setting. For you at the hotter setting.

    I know what you're talking about, there is a small module underneath the dash. Stick your head up under the passenger side floorboard and look towards the area behind your ash tray. You'll see a metal track looking thing clicking and moving. Not sure what it does or how to fix it. Mine does this too sometimes.

    My rodent orgy sound was my blower motor on the HVAC.

    Very common.
