So my transmission is a bitch to shift into gear. First and reverse are the worst. Basically feels like the clutch doesn't want to fully release. Clutch petal is good as terms of adjustment. W59. Worn out clutch?

There is a demand for manual Trans's in Tacoma's from what I have seen. So many people want them and not a lot to go around. the Resale value wont be hurt at all.

After having a 2nd gen auto for over 4 years - IMO this is the only way to get the truck if you pay any attention to shift points or care about on demand power. Even though its a truck I still care about drivability and comfort with the proper driveline combination. It can make or break ownership of a vehicle over the years. Car, truck, anything that moves needs a good trans/motor combo to really enjoy.
I would recommend this trans over auto 100x to any potential new buyers.
I "accepted" the confused and harsh auto trans/motor combination of the 2nd gen from the get go because its a Toyota and I just forked over some good coinage- and what the hell do I know about designing longevity and reliability into vehicles. Now I hear the majority of ppl on here saying similar things about the 3rd gen (albeit a "trans learning period" and ECT button aside).

So I adjusted my driving style when I had the auto and learned to love my 2nd gen taco quint driving style, then I went to a 265/70/27 KO2 and I had to again accept the throttle response and laborious highway passing. Actually the taller tire made the trans a little slower to shift, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing given my previous impressions.

Now I have the 3rd gen 6MT... & that :censored:shit fit like a glove from day 1....never looking back. Maybe never changing the tire size or lifting its so buttery smooth....mmmmm sacrilegious.....oh and Im getting about 75 km more per tank so far.

I love the 6MT in my Frontier, pairs perfectly with the 4.0L v6. 6th is perfect for any highway, at 120km/h it turns 2250rpm, At 90km/h its at 1750rpm and still has enough torque to pull up decent grades. Need to downshift to 5th for mountain passes, but it's also an overdrive gear.

The gear shifts can be temperamental when stone cold in 1st and 2nd but very liveable.

I seen that some on this site as well auto guys saying your resale will be less. I looked up a few on eBay buy it now prices 1000 less for a manual, so almost 1/2 less than the auto in the first place.

I still say something is fishey on the manuals won't sell statements you hear. Everone I know wants a manual. Manufactures say they won't sell, so they don't make many or none. If you go to a dealer to get one there is none so you settle for the auto then the manufactures say "see knowone wants one".

I'm usually not one of those conspiracy guys but this topic (and ancient aliens) I am.

When I bought my 16 MT DCSB, it wasn't even an issue. I asked for a manual, salesman said "what colour." I was driving it a week later. I'm in Canada.

i have trouble going from 2-1 sometimes or N-1....like sitting at a light in neutral then putting it in 1st to go and it feels like it gets caught about halfway through the throw and i end up going back to neutral or into 2nd then back up to get it in. is this at all like what you are experiencing? is this normal? besides that its smooth

LOL when I call my dealer they said "don't think Toyota even makes one anymore". He would do some checking and get back with me. He did and found one 150 miles away they went and got it, I bought it that day.

All jk aside for a sec - If pullling from the parts bin was a necessity.

What other combination would Toyota have considered?...hmmm
Name some other good combos out there.
My experience is only that of the Taco.

The first dealer I talked to said they found 1 m/t and could get it in 2 days. The 2nd dealer(15 min from the 1st), had 3 on the lot ready to go.
Needless to say the 2nd got my business.

That's normal; release and engage the clutch again, and it will go into gear smoothly.
