Front Differential and Transfer - synthetic or non-synthetic ?

I understand that the front differential and the transfer case, on my 2007 4x4 Access Cab with regular 4-wheel drive (no off-road pkg or TRD, and no LSD), should be replenished with a

$28 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75w-90 gear oil. I'm just trying to figure out if I should go with a synthetic, like Mobil 1, or should I just use a regular non-synthetic (if so, WHAT)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have read that the factory installed oil is non-synthetic, where as, I have also read that many Tacoma owners are replacing with a synthetic, such as Mobil 1.

I need to change, so I just need some suggestions.........

You'll be fine using synthetic, many people do

 

I used Mobil1 synthetic when I changed front diff, rear diff, and transfer case at 30k miles and the oil looked like new I regretted spending the money on it, seemed like too soon based on how the oil looked.

 

I used mobil 1 syn at my 30K interval and my front and rear looked awful. It had the milky look so water may have gotten in. T case looked fine.

 

i use this. i have had this in our farm equipment gear boxes, balers, mowers, tedders, rakes for years without issue. even my superduty runs this.

my taco will be soon.

That super tech oil is the wal mart store brand. I know that sounds bad but I know the motor oil is supposed to be on par with the top name brands. It's supplied by pennzoil.

 

Hate to sound stupid, but what is dyno lube ?

I changed the oil in my rear differential a few weeks ago myself. I found some Royal Purple synthetic at the local auto parts store. It was pricey at $20.00 a quart. I plan on doing the transfer case and front differential in the next couple of weeks also. My rear differential oil was changed by Toyota the dealership at 55,000 miles. It was overdue for a change when I did it myself at 95,000. To my amazement the oil looked brand new when I drained it.

 

So, can you use the same oil, that's in the front differential and transfer, in the rear differential ?

 

Yes it all takes the same weight oil. These two threads are golden they should be able to answer any question you have and then some.

Thanks, I subscribed to both, and I had actually seem them both, however, they were started a long time ago, and they are very long. I got to change out the front differential actuator, so I thought it would be a good time to change the oil in the front differential, then that led to the Transfer case, and so forth and so on, and I was at the rear differential. Sorry to ask about stuff that's already been discussed "to death", but sometimes it's just quicker.............

Exact same thing for me. I changed it for the second time with Mobil 1 Synthetic before our annual trip to Taos, NM and the oil coming out was still golden in color. I offroad and use the 4x4 at least once a month too. This go around i'm going to push it to 40K and check the fluid before draining.
