Sadly not so much anymore. I grew up fly fishing. My dad used build fly rods and teach fly tying classes. I have loads of good memories fly fishing. It's something ive thought about getting back into but I also scuba dive, rock climb, mountain bike, road bike, backpack and then there's my truck. I have too many things going on as it is. Maybe some day.

Hello all.... I am based out of Livermore.... can anyone recommend an easy/moderate trail within 2-3 hours drive? I'm looking to do a quick over night camp trip. I've already been to Hollister... would prefer a little wider trails and not scratch up the paint :(

    Any recommendations appreciated.

If you want to wheel and don't want to hurt your truck, then I got nothing ;)

I would head out towards Stonyford, but turn up the road at Little Stony Creek towards Digger Pine Campground. Make sure you have a map or a good gps app and get yourself lost around Pacific Ridge (with the right map there are some jeep trails around there) and make your way to Letts Lake to camp. On your way out go M6 and there are some cool 4wd jeep trails (some seemed more like side by side trails and I have the scratches to prove it) to test out all your pretty buttons, but they will pinstripe you. This is a good area for a stock Tacoma when the sierras are closed. If you really explore there are some water crossings and muddy areas.

More shit then I ever planned on doing
That's a nice area. Been years since I've been up there. We would always cross the creek off walker ridge / Indian valley and make our way to Letts Lake. Last time I was up there I watched a guy try and winch his jeep up a tree for no good reason. He found out the hard way that the tree branch wasn't strong enough.

I know... I'm kinda being a twat about the pinstripes... but she's still a little too new for me to fully commit to serious trails.

You're recommendation sounds perfect. Thanks. The area near Letts Lake... is that dispersed camping? Of do you have to stay at Letts Lake campground?

Wider then Hollister. Mist trails are closed until the spring. But I'm sure there is some fire roads that you could explore those might be wide enough for you.

When? I'm open Saturday. Do you have any ideas as to were you want to mount it? Maybe something that someone else has done. I'm have been busy lately with work and school not much time to drool on truck porn.

    A little a this, a little a that...
A good wax job will do wonders for protecting the paint.

Besides, it's just the first scratch that hurts. After that it's all good...

It's National forest so you should be able to camp anywhere. Make sure you have a fire permit.

You can still camp there, but I don't think they pump the toilets if they are even unlocked (lower campground will be closed). I have camped there before in the winter, I have also just camped off small trail on random ridge and it was awesome. Make sure you take the lower entrance, or you are just driving on boring M6. There are multiple great camp spots around that area near creeks or on ridges, but you need to find them on your own.
