My 3rd Gen has no trac control or anything. Just ABS and E-Locker. They didn't get the trac control and all that till 2000. You got me at the tailgate though.

Wasn't talking about the 3.0. Was talking about the 22RE. Bulletproof. And 3.0 isn't bad if you actually take care of it. Problem is most people don't.

Yeah 2000 is when it got annoying electronically. Throttle also became controlled electronically. There's only a throttle cable in case the electronics fail so you can limp home.

    Doesn't look like it

Unless they are just displaying the color. @tcBob just posted this on 4runners.com. Apparently came from Toyotas IG.

If funds ever allow I would love to put a v8 in mine. Lexus v8s are so cheap and very reliable.
How about an 8k feet? Towing a trailer? Lol
    Is it called mint paste?
What does it have 120hp on a good day? Haha

5vz and 1uz are both just as good of not better. The 22re is a great engine, but not the best...

The years per generation would suggest 2017 would be all new. I talked to someone at a dealership who says if they don't meet CAFE standards that the 4runner may not be around much longer. The sequoia is for sure going away. They could add a year to the production to see what happens...

I drove my 22RE 1st Gen from LA to Flagstaff(7K feet) and thank god for 3rd gear and revving the ever living crap out of it. But reliability wise the 22RE is probably the pinnacle of Toyota motors..followed by the 3.4L. I would rock a 22RE 1st or 2nd Gen up here.

I added it to my other post too late, but they may extend the production run to see if they have room in the line up. It would be so cool if they brought the land cruiser prado/fortuner/7x series sold around the world as the 6th gen 4runner here...

Yeah they're great engines, till you pop a fuse or burn a wire. Then they freak out and put you into limp mode. My step dads truck has a 1UZ and it runs terrible because the MAF is busted. Nothing is wrong with the engine mechanically but because of that one small problem it doesn't start right and has less passing power than my moms camry.

Remember the 22RE and 3VZE were both born in the 80's. Engines just like anything else are limited by the time period. They have flaws but so does any engine. Fact of the matter is without the 3VZE's flaws, the 5VZE and all the other engines wouldn't be as good

DAMN. Just googled. It didn't know they had to have such high averages. 36.5 mpg? Wow.

Considering the fuel economy of the 4runner, tundra, and tacoma, They must be dying.

True. Toyota has made great engines with flaws. 1fz had the same head gasket problems the 3 liter did but land cruiser guys love that thing.

Electronics are not scary. The MAF is busted what do you expect? What is it in?

Luckily Toyota has the #1 selling mid size car the Cary which gets great milage. They also sell a ton of Prius and Corolla's to help average out the gas milage. I am not sure how well the new Rav4 and Highlander are selling. It is all averaged based on sales now, before it just based on line-up.

Yeah, but remember Toyota does have the stupid Prius on its side. Throw in the Camry and Corolla and we're not hurting as bad as we could be. A company like Ford where a lot of their sells go to F-150s and Mustangs is hurting way worse.
They better not ax it. There are so many ways to dix the CAFE problem without killing any of them. Just need to do some reengineering

Hence bye bye sequoia. I never liked it much, always thought the highlander could do most of the same things. Luckily the prius exists right?

What I was told specifically is the rav4 hybrid has to sell more numbers than the 4runner to keep the average high. GM and Fiat are willing to pay penalties, Toyota is not.

Another rumor that surfaced this week is that the 7 Japanese car companies would merge down to 3 or less... So Toyota's car may become subarus...

Scion is already gone and a couple of their vehicles are merging with Toyota. I believe the Camry is made at one of the Subby plants as it is. Toyota should bring the diesel to the US to bump those numbers up!
