I just got back from dealer. Told them my transmission was shifting roughly. I asked to check tranny fluid.

They said there is a TSB and software update which they did. But they did not check ATF. I asked them again to check the tranny fluid and service advisor said they can't because there's no dipstick on 2016 blah blah blah. I asked them if I pay if they would check, advisor quoted $130 but I didn't trust them that they would. Probably just pull my truck around back and park it for a couple of hours and charge me.

Truck is shifting smoother though after software update. But I still want the fluid check for peace of mind. Will try another dealer next time.

Is there a tsb number on your service ticket that we could all use? Thanks.

I'll believe this when I see it. No doubt that's what you were told but, other dealers have lied to customers about getting a tranny update when none exists. As of two days ago there was no software update available per one of the toyota techs that posts here and has access to that info.

The absolute disrespectful lies of the dealership (sales and service) is intolerable! I'm in business for myself and if I ever though about lying as much as these dealers do to their customers I'd be tied up in law suites forever! I've lost all faith in Toyota dealerships around me. I don't even want to take my truck in for service because I'm feel like everything that comes out their mouth is a lie.

We need to do something about this.

I was told the same thing about a TSB and a software update. However, they said they couldn't do the update because they couldn't replicate the problem. Apparently the software update is dependent on the issue; which I told them clearly what that was.

Service writer (two different ones) told me the tech checked the transmission fluid level and that it was good (both times I was there), but that wasn't written on the work order so I call BS. That's all I want is to have my trans fluid level checked. Gonna to try and check it on my own.

I took mine in at 8,000km for oil change and tranny issues.
    My dealer said
"If the tranny fluid is low then my engine light will come on, its still too new to tell if theres an issue, just keep an eye on it.
Ill be checking it myself. Hopefully it works if i follow the instructions on the threads here.

Either they're full of shit or the trans fluid must have to be really low for the light to come on because some have reported 2 qts low.

I was just looking through the manual . Does Toyota really turn on a check engine light for a low fluid condition ?
I know Toyota,s that overheat the transmission fluid will illuminate the trans temp light but thats over 300 degrees .
Dont let that trans temp light pop up . You have literally cooked your transmission fluid if the temp light pops up
If so , why didnt the light come on for those members that were low up to 2 quarts ?
Thats an incredible amount of fluid to be low from the factory
Thats more than the tow package can hold in the cooling system

You can read how to adjust your transmission fluid level at this link

    i like this one better
Listed below in the link is the actual Toyota procedure for " adjusting " the fluid level . It is Not the procedure for filling an empty transmission .
The AC60E is the 2 wheel drive version
The AC60F is the 4 wheel drive version

With the cluster fuck of transmission threads I don't know where I posted my reference to this but, after adding about 2/3 quart of ATF two weekends ago I finally had the opportunity to drive my truck some significant distance at more than residential speeds over this past weekend. It definitely holds 6th gear better in cruise control on small hills and seems better to up shift after it has down shifted for hills.

There should be a thread merge for the tranny issues. Would be a lot more productive and easier to find info and keep track of any developments.

I have the manual tranny and havnt noticed any issues. Should I be concerned about low transmission fluid? Would the process be the same for me to check mine? I'm not familiar with the components of my transmission but would like to be.

I don't know which transmission you have - the service manual lists two manual trannys - RC62F and R156F. It's unlikely there would be a problem with either as there is not a transmission cooler on a manual. Regardless, if you want to check the process is similar on both (and almost all manuals). With the truck level, remove the fill plug and stick your finger inside. The level should be about 1/8-1/4" from the bottom of the fill hole. If you can't feel any then add some. If oil comes out then let it run into a pan and remove more to get at the proper level by either sticking in a clear hose and sucking some out or pull the drain plug momentarily to let some out. The procedures for both are attached here.

I guess it might be wise to mention that unlike the process for an automatic transmission, the engine should *not* be running when checking a manual. That would be a good way to lose the end of your finger ;-).

No, manual transmission you check the fluid level by removing the fill plug plug about half way up the side of the transmission (passenger side on my 4cyl 5 speed). Fluid should be at the level of the plug. Another reason to avoid automatic transmissions.

Engine off. You can check it when it's cold. If it's hot fluid will be above the level of the fill plug and run out.
