What he said. I thought it was easier when the floor is held up a few inches from fully open (need a helper for this). I had one corner that it kept happening to every few openings, so I put a little daub of silicone on there. Been ~2 years, problem solved.

Could you pull it out and slide it back in?

This happens when it is closed and some folks pull it out when they are tucking in. Simple fix. When it is closed pull it out of the track till you get to the part that is still in the tent and then slide it back in the channel.

Also this happens mostly on the tents with the overhang as folks also try to stick the u bar in and put to much pressure on that area and it pulls it out. When putting the u bar in make sure it lines up with a 3 sewn together pieces in the corner of the overhang then attach it to the base.

Awesome thread! I've been looking at RTT's for a couple years now and will be purchasing one before the end of the year.

A question about the "Stargazer" option... So I see that it has fabric panels that can be closed for shade, etc.. Does the outer "rainfly" have plastic sheet for seeing through?

Yes, there are 2 clear plastic 'Windows' on the rain fly. One of my only complaints is that these windows can't be opened, so if you want a totally clear view out the top, you have to remove the fly. I suppose this is for water-proofing purposes.

Thanks Ryan, I appreciate the head's up. I see your point, but on the other hand it's also kind of cool that you can have a view of the sky even when it's raining or snowing.

Definitely! If I did it again, I would still get the stargazer.

How long have you owned the tent? In my experience after a few years those plastic windows start to look like hell.

Thanks again! And if you did it again, would you still get the Mt. Rainier style, with the covered "vestibule" over the ladder? In this thread I've seen a few mixed reviews on that, some seem to love it and some like it better without.

And on that topic, I understand their is the regular wall and door inside that vestibule. Is there a way to secure that vestibule up and out of the way in nice weather, so you have one more side with a view? Or is it kind of a permanent thing that is always there?

I have only had it one year, so no experience with any discoloration or damage to the Windows.

Mine is a mt. Shasta. I really like having the overhang, and my girlfriend likes that i can zip on the annex and the ladder is 'inside'. We often use the annex for a changing room, and when I camp with my brothers they sleep on a queen size inflatable mattress in the annex, so for my uses it's a great feature.

I don't really see any way to move the overhang up out of the way if you don't want it. I usually try to set up so that the breeze flows through the side windows. It can get pretty warm in the morning if you're trying to sleep in, I'm planning on getting a 12v fan this summer.

Happy to help out! It's a big investment to make without ever seeing one in person! But that's what I did, and I haven't regretted it for a single minute.

Agreed, it's a decent chunk of change. I work in Santa Cruz, and I realized there is a competing brand of RTT based out of here. But I've got to say, I like the looks of the stargazer option, and the materials of CVT seem a bit sturdier.

Just to add onto the previous questions about the additional overhang on the Shasta. I have one and love it. I like having the lower annex size and ladder within especially when I am at music festivals or campgrounds as it allows for changing and privacy. When I am remote camping most the time I don't zip the annex on unless I am staying for a few days and weather looks questionable. I do however love the additional overhang in the rain. I can climb up the ladder and take off rain gear and hang it without needing to get the annex wet/muddy. Awesome for winter steelheading and hunting.

Just make sure you open your tent up when you get back and dry it out. If mine has been in any rain or significant moisture I'll pull it off the rack and use a friends garage to open it up and run an electric space heater for 24 hours or more.

Just picked up a RTT from bobby in bend Oregon Two thumbs up! I couldn't even get out of a gas station without someone asking about the tent.
Bobby, next time you come over to the wet side, let me know, I'll garb the boat and take you salmon, steelhead, or sturgeon fishing.
