I am thinking about replacing the rear chrome bumper inserts and replacing them with a Sky Silver body matched pair or replacing them with a non-painted(Black) set. The un-painted set from Toyota are black plastic and they look OK from the pics in the ad. Has anybody seen this done or have a pic of this set-up? I am leaning towards painting them.

I will soon be adding a set of SR8 wheels and I would like to get most of the chrome off of my truck. I will be replacing the chrome door emblems with the black Tacoma ones.

Why not just have a body shop prep and pain the existing ones on the truck?

They are both great options and they would both save some money. I wasn't sure about painting over the chrome finish, but I guess it would not be a problem.

Not quite what you're looking for but I ordered some inserts off of eBay and absolutely love them. Stick on and super easy.
Bubblegum pink on my metallic grey TRD.

Been super happy with them. I'm in So Cal so I'm not sure about snow or extreme amounts of rain. But we had a nice downpour this year already and some higher temperatures (85+ degrees) and these have held up without a problem.

I have 2016 Sport, Barcelona red with color-keyed rear bumper. If you're wanting to paint yours black, I would do an even trade, my red for your chrome. I'm sure it would be easier to paint mine black than over chrome.

Umm.... He was talking about the bumper parts, not the TACOMA lettering.

No, I started to remove them and decided to keep what I have. They've grown on me.
    Thanks for checking. Sorry

I replaced my bumper ends that I ordered from Royal South on ebay, from chrome to unpainted "black". I know it would've been cheaper to just plastidip them but I'm just weird like that. Looks better than chrome IMO.

How big of a pain was it to remove and replace the chrome ones? I have replacement black caps as well, but I am debating just having the dealer do it to avoid the hassle.

I prefer your OEM wheels much more so than the TRD OR wheels that came on my truck.

It wasn't too bad, 5 plastic fasteners for each bumper end and 1 alligator clip.

That is good news! I'll probably crawl under mine and take a look before giving to dealer a call then.

    Thanks!
