It was! Solid steel decorative posted buried 2 feet in the ground encased in concrete. Was pulling out of driveway going forward and looking to my right (mailbox on left) to check cars coming down the street and cut too damn short. By the time I heard the first scraping noise and stopped I had already gone 6-7 feet. That will certainly do the job on the side of a truck. Pulled the mailbox completely out of the ground as I basically ran over it. Wife wanted the same mail box replaced. F****** thing cost me $350 even with my contractor's discount. So far a "blessing in disguise" as the Tundra (great truck) was more that I ever needed. Although I brought some 2x4x8's home from Lowe's the other day and they stuck out passed the tailgate on the Tacoma even with it down. The Tacoma is not a work truck for me. Bottom line: stupid move on my part!

Side note: Bought my wife a 2013 Lexus RX350 which was the first year (I think) of significant body and interior changes (same engine as previous models). So far, not one issue with the vehicle after 2 1/2 years and 35K miles.

    ^This.

I bought one of the first 2nd Gens to roll off the production line (me thinks.) NOT a single issue except for the Compass/Temp readout issue which I soldered up per TW instructions, license plate bulb burnout after 11 years, new front wheel bearings and a frame replacement 2 months ago. I can't break my truck. Which is a problem, because I want a new truck, but I'm cheap, and something has to break big time before I replace it.
I don't believe my truck issues are related to being the first year of a new generation model.

But despite having crawl control and Shitty all season tires.
He was able to make it out of the hole.
The crawl control and mts system didn't hinder him at all.

Hyundai's trade in is brutal. According to Canadian Black Book my wifes 2 year old car with 50K on it was worth less than half of MSRP. I'm glad I had and still have a good dealership contact with our local Ford dealer because that Sonata we had traded is still on their lot... for now less than we traded it for. No hurt feelings though. The wife gets all of her maintenance done their and pays for the synthetic and premium packages.

For the record, the OP wasn't intended to be a love letter to Hyundai. I just used those vehicles as examples of new designs that had - for me - no quality issues. The negative posts about Hyundai in this thread actually make my point. If Hyundai (who many of you dislike) can get it right, Toyota really should be able to get it right!

Why are you talking in third person? You are OP. We get it. Honestly I wasn't knocking Hyundai. Ours was a good car but we outgrew it. I agree with the statement that everyone has a bad model or two and a lemon or two that comes off the line.

However, it is important to note that if your Tacoma is a lemon you can get out of it for a few K after purchase, which is not the case with anything Hyundai makes. Getting out of our perfectly functional Sonata could and should of cost us half of it's value after just two years. That's insanely bad resale and it's common among Hyundai products here. Mostly because I don't think there is a time of year when Hyundai Canada isn't offering at least 2K off of every vehicle they sell before negotiation coupled with 7 year 0% financing...

Toyota has got a lot of 3rd gens right. Yes, there are "common" issues reported, but those are just the norm now from every company as has already been mentioned several times.

My family bought a 2015 F150 though and those trucks have been solid off the line for whatever reason. Maybe because Ford spent 5 years on it to make sure the first aluminum truck didn't repeat the GM diesel woes of the 80's that set that market back a decade. Compared to the initial Silverado, Colorado, Canyon, and Tacoma issues one has to wonder what is so hard that Ford was able to get it right and GM/Toyota were not. BTW that's just open speculation. I'm not knocking GM or Toyota and I'm not dick swinging for Ford. It's just a statement.

It was intended to be for the "Original Post" as in "what I wrote the first time." I'm not some wierdo that says "Jim is hungry!" For the rest of your post, I think we're on the same page.

@Sterdog I just looked at your profile pic. That's a really nice winch set up. Could you point me in the right parts direction on that? I need a winch for the farm, creek-crossings, etc. and want to go low profile like yours as opposed to my Jeep that screams "WINCH."

All good. I wasn't making fun of you. I just thought it was odd that you were talking in the third person. If I didn't look over and see the OP marker beside your online name I would of thought you were just a random guy talking about the OP. That's just me though.

It's on a 2013, I'm pretty sure it'd be a PITA to put the same setup on a 2016 because of the cutting and fab that may be required. This is where I got mine:

    https://www.usoffroad.us/store/

He has an account on here (@usoffroad) so you could consider bugging him to see if he's interested in making up a few for the 2016's.

Edit: I should also say I'm selling mine soon. I have a new bumper on the way. A Pelfreybilt Hybrid. This one served me well and I'd keep it except I tore off half the stock bumper plastic offroading. The winch mount is still in perfect condition though. It's built like a tank.

I think it shows a serious lack of attention to detail that owners still have to do the Diff Breather Mod on the 2016 TRD OR.

Toyota's promotional videos are full of contrived hype but such a simple yet necessary piece of engineering that has been documented in all the Toyota forums etc. should not have been omitted from the 3rd gen.

I know I am at least disappointed, suprised and very unhappy with mine. 53 days of ownership 26 days in service.

Selling it on Craigslist, listing is in Redlands CA. (Check it before Toyota's marketin team blocks it)

The part that cracked me up was the last line...how the heck is that possible?

"- Comes with Snow-Tires and OEM tires (because it was getting stuck in my driveway with 2" of snow...)"

So you bought a new truck and don't have any major issues with it. Good to hear!

I guess it was getting stuck because the brakes were dragging, one wheel spinning, three braking. Twice while stuck bystanders had questioned if it was a 4x4 and if it was engaged.
