They look great! These wheels are 7.5 or 8in wide? I thought I read that they were 4.5 bs can't remember the width.

Yes. I will get some for you. But to explain, I'm using a typical heavy duty rubber tarp strap. It goes around the ABS pipe, around the Yakima bars and then wraps around and secures behind the tarp strap itself with s-hooks. Similar to a hitch knot.

The trap strap is backed up by stainless steel hose clamps. It's been on the truck for over 3-years, and only once did I have to maintenance it, and that was just tightening the screws on the hose clamps and squirting some thread locker into them.

    yes

So wish I could have made it there this month. Wife and I had toyed with the idea of using this holiday weekend to go to DV, but decided to stay home and play around town instead. Kinda glad we did as we've been battling some really stubborn colds, thanks to my youngest kid.

    Thank you. :)

The 4runner limited wheels are: 16" x 7" 4.5" BS. They moved the tire exactly 3/4" away from the frame, which was exactly what I needed in the front.

All the work for the Toyo's I've had to do...
    • Moved to 4runner Limited wheels with 4.5 back spacing to solve: frame, LCA, and UCA rubbing.
    • I had to beat the pinch weld flat with a sledge hammer,
    • I had to cut back the mud flaps a lot,
    • I reformed the rear fender liner with a heat gun to make flat (after pinch weld was beat flat)
    • I also had to relocate the spare tire carrier back 1" to avoid the diff hitting the 255 spare under compression.
    • I had to install 1/4" bump stop spacers to stop rubbing tops of fender well under full compression.
    • Cab Mount Chop (CMC) Oct. 2016

The 255/85/R16 Toyos are the largest in their size and to make them fit was a lot more work than I bargained for. But I am glad for it. They are a really tough tire and have performed really well off road and I'm quite happy with them.

gotcha, im on 255/80/17 cooper st maxx, blown away at this tire. I had the toyo mts before and i wasnt as happy with them except they were bullet proof, but i had trouble balancing them and they were loud and heavy and i just didnt want a full MT. Chux sold me on the coopers, I just swapped out the 885x for the 886 and installed the LR UCAs, whole new truck up front and no rubbing or anything. Made me even front to back and surprising the ride is not that rough at all with a IFS skid on. The new rims look good though and it fixed everything?

I didn't see it but are the 285x75r16?

Also, you're going to love those tires. The work really well in the desert but youve got to get them down to the mid teens to really wake them up. Those 10ply sidewalls are strong! I would run the MT but I have no need for them at their price. The ATIIs have been great to me.

I agree, new wheels give the truck a whole new look! With those wheels and the popularity of the SCS F5's you get a little bit of that vibe go'in on.

Over the long holiday weekend, I managed to knock out another door for the Sound deadner project that I started in November 2015. This was the front passenger.

I have six solid hours into this one door, and it's probably at least 6 pounds heavier!

    IMG_20160215_170248_1d79c6795e69a4827b96f4de0539552675b46fba.jpg

I used a different sequence on this door.

I used Noico black self-adhesive Foil & Butyl mat on the inside of the outer skin. It has a total density / weight of 0.65 lbs / 1 sq ft. :)

I put it in the sun so it gets hot and malleable.

    DSC02545_f7c1926575f87f84871c3d67ecbb75d3006e3f07.jpg

Cut to fit, and pressed into place on the inside the outer door skin.
    IMG_20160212_124455_33b79ae719e803b8916fb728d74d02909af11bfa.jpg

Then covered the mat with the Frost King vinyl duct insulation stuff!
    IMG_20160212_132249_5f90be10768172cd84ec249f5df63739c0eb56f8.jpg

    Outer skin done.
    IMG_20160212_132255_2f504b70f792a68b00b0e8e4a6c010ea41851b6c.jpg

Inner skin got sealed up, filled the holes with HDPE like this, then some deadner mat, and foam applied.
    IMG_20160215_155413_e4f6da27b2d7a02dd0e609fec60b85ff6f1d33c0.jpg

And finally, a layer of 1/8" mass loaded vinyl (MLV).
    IMG_20160215_170248_0e878af5d06d127a7b880bfe859871827ce9b54c.jpg

There are a lot of details that went into this that I'm leaving out, but for those that know, it's a shit ton of work. I also greased the square nuts in the window track and the gears for the window lift motor.

I was smart about it and I took my MLV template, traced it out, copied it, and cut one for the drivers side. I did the same for the polypropylene filler plates I made. This will probably save me 2 hours or more on the driver side door.

I've never seen anyone do the Mvl before, what's the secret to that product, and I take it everything fits back on just fine?

MLV is the best sound blocker money can buy. I want my truck to be quiet on the inside so I can better hear my youngest kid talk on road trips during interstate travel.

I wrote a little bit on the sound deadner theory and practice back in Nov. here.

Thanks! You are welcome. ;) It should be noted though, that apparently this only happens with the big Toyo's. They are 33.5" tall. The Cooper ST MAXX, and other tire manufacturers in the same size, are slightly smaller and do no rub like the Toyo's. I did not know that when I purchased. I found out the hard way. ;)

Thanks. I've been running them since August. All I did this weekend was swap the newish tires over to the 4runner wheels. The Toyo's are 255/85/R16. The tire casing (sidewalls) are 3-ply polyester. And as of right now, they are wicked tough.

    :)

Here is a small collection of photos of the tires at various pressures.

Thanks. The 5-star design is a classic in my book. I do like the SCS F5's and If I needed an 8" wheel, it would probably be them... ;)

Wow, must be the pizza cutter with all that sidewall. My ATII extremes wake up at 16 psi but ive had them as low as 12 on the rocks. Next time I'm out ill take a pic at 19 and it doesn't give like that.

I actually sound deadened my roof and back wall this weekend using Noico products (black foil and heat insulation). I can attest that it is a PITA, but well worth the effort. I've used dynamat before and application is the same. Lay it out and roll it on nice and tight., making sure to avoid air bubbles. The good thing with the foil backed deadener is that if you do manage to get air bubbles, you can pierce the foil and roll them out. It does not affect the product at all. I still need to do the doors, but my back shoulders were toast from rolling the deadener on overhead so that will wait a while.

A correction for clarity, no modern tires actually have 10 plies on the tread. That's a misconception born of the somewhat ridiculous legacy nomenclature used in load ratings. When a radial tire is called "10-ply" it just means its maximum inflation pressure is the same as an ancient 10-ply cotton bias tire. So 10-ply is just an unusual way a specifying the load/inflation rating of 80 psi.

For example the KO2 in load E or 10-ply has three polyester and one nylon ply on the tread (plus the two steel plies or layers) with three polyester on the sidewall. The load C or 6-ply has an identical tread construction but only two plies on the sidewall.

Semi-good reference on the confusing tire terminology:

    Those wheels look awesome!
Let me know if the stockers don't sell. Really only need two and am in no rush.

This is an odd size, I know because that is what I run but in a Goodyear All-Terrain Adventure teflon. My friend and I have about two dozen trips to Death Valley alone and no issues for either of us.
