Hello my name is paul. Live in Alabama. Just purchased a 1999 Toyota with e-cab and automatic transmission. Need to do some improvements and hope that someone can help me with some tec advice. Replace instrument cluster without tac with one with tac. Install clock and bezel. I have worked on and around heavy equipment all my life but not the dash of an auto. Thanks for any help. Paul

 

Hi Paul, wecome to TW. Would you mind telling us how much you paid for it. Would you consider a external mount rev counter or do you want a complicated in-dash mount.

 

Paid a premium + some. Truck had 16,000 miles. I was able to talk to previous owner. Truck is like new. Was able to get a warranty from GE for 48 months or 48000 miles whichever comes first. Paid 11,500 but I didn't think I would find one in this condition and so few miles. An older man owned it and when he passed on it became available.
If I can figure out how, I want to install a factory clock and instrument cluster with a tac. Also need a set of Factory Manuals.

No you didn't. That’s a very good buy. Just looked up a 1998 Tacoma 4x4 with 75,000 miles listed at $18,400 Canadian and a 2000 Tacoma e-cab with 187,500 miles listed for $13,900 Canadian. Yes, they are miles and not kilometers. Used Toyota truck prices drove me to buy new. It just made sense.

Is your instrument cluster blanked out where the tachometer would otherwise be. If so, you are lucky. A few scrap yards are a good place to start to buy an existing cluster and switch what’s needed. Make sure you get the tachometer and speedometer cable with it. Failing which a good graphic designer may be able to re-create an instrument cluster by scanning your existing face plate. You buy a meter from Toyota and you are in business. Stay tuned and visit often as other members who have first hand experience with first generation Taco's should make suggesions. Hello Jim. I live in Clay Al. Attached to Trussville. Grew up in Pell City (Cropwell) before the lake was there. Moved away to California for 42 years and returned to this area in 2001. Still have family there. Small world. Paul

 

Small world indeed. I grew up on the side of Shades Mountain - now part of Homewood or Bluff Park, moved out here 16 years ago. We were in Clay/Trussville area the other day, and my group rides through there on our motorcycles. Pull-a-part in Birmingham has some stuff for older Toyota trucks, and Daffrons junkyard has some parts available for newer ones, but I don't recall any complete dash/instrument clusters. Most of his stuff was really picked apart. Jim

Bob: I don't quite understand some features about the program. For instance if I log on and just want to post a message for everyone to see, how do I start?
Also each time I access the program, I see a message that I am visiting as a guess and need to register to become a member. I thought I had?

What is the defference in a junior and a senior member?
Is there a link that I can go to and learn these things?
