So I have two (or more) road trips coming up this summer due to transferring duty stations and looking for sights to see.

    1) June- Oklahoma City -> Pensacola (35 days in P-cola). Then to Miami for a week in July.
Have a few things/places that are a must stop (friends in Gulport, MS).

    2) July- Miami, FL -> Oklahoma City. Home for a few days to a week for the movers and final prep to transfer.
Intend to swing North through Nashville then across I-40 home.

    3) August- Oklahoma City -> Oregon (final city TBD). Intent to swing up through Yellowstone to see Ol' Faithful (at a minimum).

Any suggestions for places to stop?

@MTgirl I know you're familiar with Yellowstone, any suggestions up that way? Thinking after stopping in Yellowstone of swinging up I-90 through Idaho to see some family up there.

if you don't already have an interagancy pass for the parks get one, since you're active military its free!

If traffic isn't horrible and you get an early start you could make the trek in a day and hit some of the main attractions in the park. Driving, no stops, no traffic, it takes me about 5 hours to get from Bozeman to Jackson when I'm heading that way for a weekend. double that to stop at the main geyser basins, etc. triple it if traffic sucks :frusty:
    I would estimate that...
jackson to old faithful, no stops in between, 2 hours
old faithful 90 minutes depending on when you arrive vs next eruption. take the time to hike geyser hill behind the main viewing boardwalk while you wait
old faithful to madison junction with stops at midway and lower geyser basins in between 2-4 hours depending on traffic
at madison you can either head out the west gate (30 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic) up hwy 191 to bozeman (2 hours, crazy traffic so be alert) or continue through the park to norris (1 hour) and head over to canyon for a quick look-see (1 hour) then back to norris and up to mammoth (1 hour) and the out the north gate and to livingston and bozeman (2 hours)
best case scenario that's a 10 hour day with enough breaks throughout to break up the driving and you get to see most of the highlights of the park. if you just stop for the boardwalks around the geyser basins you can cover 3 to 5 miles easily. bring a cooler, have snacks long the way and skip trying to eat at any of the restaurants to save time.'
