Well, I am in the market for a TT. I want a Tango 17UL all fiber glass weighing in at a dry weight of 3950. I figure fully loaded I'd be around 4800 at the most, and that's being overly generous. I drive a 2015 DC Sport 4x4 Auto w/ tow package. Of course I would have the WD hitch and brake controller. I really just don't want to over work my truck. I'm in So Cal and there are hills o'plenty here, especially to my fave camping spots. I dunno, i'm thinking I should just go with the R Pod, coming in at a dry weight of 2900. It comes down to maintaining the "health" of my truck. I don't want to have issues over the long run from stressing it out towing something out of it's range. I have read, read and over read everything on here. It is all over the place really lol. Some guys are towing the shit out of 28 foot/ 6500 lb TT and some guys are stressing over 650 lb trailers. Driving. Me. Crazy!

Just venting the thoughts in my mind. I am going in on Saturday and writing a check for one or the other. Just looking for some insight I guess.

Knowing nothing about either setup, is one inherently better than the other? I would probably go with the lighter weight one just as a matter of principle, but keep in mind I'm coming into this with no knowledge of either product.

Yeah, I mean really it comes down to space. The Tango is more spacious and has some features I dig, but really when ur camping you are out and about and just sleeping in the trailer right? I believe that my truck is my main priority really. The R Pod is prob the best avenue to go. Just to be on the safe side I guess.

Have you checked out the Roof Top Tent (RTT) threads?

The last few years, we've been operating on the basis of carry it in/carry it out...on your back; but since the kiddies started materializing, I've been digging the RTT concept. Especially considering that twice a year my neighbour needs to ask permission to block my driveway to do stuff to her 2,000 sq.ft. 5th wheel.

    (yea, I used a semi-colon :dancingbacon:)

Don't buy either one this weekend, you need to spend some time thinking on it, and more importantly spend some time inside these camp rigs. Find an enthusaist forum for each camper rig, go to a meet, be inside them, see what they're all about. It's like test driving a car... don't buy before ya try!

Yeah, I have looked into those. With me the lady, 2 boys and the dog.. just not enough room. Maybe if I didn't have the short bed. I guess I was really looking for the justification to buying the Tango. I will prob just buy the R Pod and stay on the side of caution. They really are nice and will suit my needs of staying dry and warm when it's cold and wet.

2 adults 2 kids and a dog?!?!? Tango or R-pod you won't have enough room. Pro-tip: drown the kids in the bathtub and have a camper to yourself where the wife and you can have some peace and quiet;)

Gotcha, it's just the right amount of space for my fiancee our two dogs and I. Good luck OP! I'm sure you'll be stoked on whatever you get.

Incorrectly, I might add. You don't need the coordinating conjunction (but) when you use a semicolon. :bananadead:

My deed for the day is done. Grammar Nazi OUT

At least be right if you're going to be a Nazi. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a semicolon to separate two independent clauses, the second of the two beginning with a coordinating conjunction, as long as the first clause contains one or more commas. This is one of the more common usages of the semicolon in written English.

Can we get back on TT topic? It usually takes far, far worse grammar to derail a thread like this.

    • Use a semicolon between independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction if the clauses are already punctuated with commas or if the clauses are lengthy.

Some people write with a word processor, typewriter, or a computer; but others, for different reasons, choose to write with a pen or pencil.

Ok- back on topic. You mind me asking what the ballpark price is on the Tango 17? I want more like a 14' pop-up, or maybe a hi-lo style, but I think I could sell the wife easier on something with built in shower/potty. My kiddo is 4, so he doesn't take up much room yet.

Lol. You cats are crazy! The Tango is 17,995. Got them down to 14,900. I think I'm going to wait a bit. I have since found some other trailers I want to go and check out before I buy something. My kids won't always be with me. But the gf and dog will be. So if I land in a 18-22 ft. It should be fine. It's the flipping weight! The riverside rv's I'm checking out this weekend clock in at around 2800 uvw.

Not to add something else to consider, but.... Have you looked at the Winnebago Winnie Drop? 2780-lb dry weight. Haven't seen them in person, but they look pretty nice online.
