Anybody know or hear when Bilstein is coming out with their 5100 series shocks for the 2016 Tacomas? I heard next month? Should I wait or get the model number 24-239370 (which fit the '15)? Thanks for any info.

So if I got those 5100s for the '15, I should set it at .85 (to get it level with the back)? Essentially it'd be 1.85 for my '16?

    THREAD REVIVE

So I was looking at the 5100s for my Sport.

I understand that the 3rd gen models are 1" higher than the second gen.

So on the 5100s, when you are setting the shock at 0" are you setting it 1" shorter than the original shock?

Same question, different words; are the 5100s lift specifications calibrated for the 2nd gen taco or the 3rd gen taco?

It depends on what coils you're using. If using stock 3rd gen coils, the stated lift specs are going to more or less be accurate for the 3rd gen because the coils are quite a bit heavier than 2nd gen coils. If you choose to go that route, just keep in mind that the 2nd gen 5100s are not valved for the 3rd gen coils, though there are lots of folks on this board that are running that combo and seem to be getting along okay. I don't think I'd run them any higher than the .85 position (2nd groove), though, due to the coils being so much stiffer.

On the other hand, if you pair the 5100s with 2nd gen aftermarket coils (Toytec/Eibach, OME, etc.) then the expected lift should be 1" less than stated due to the fact that a stock 3rd gen already has the first 1" built in and the stated lift for the shock/coil combo is only applicable to the 2nd gen (I.e., a shock/coil combo that is expected to yield 2.5" of lift over a stock 2nd gen will actually only yield 1.5" of lift over a stock 3rd gen). Also, worth noting... even with aftermarket coils, the valving isn't quite right for the 3rd gen due to it being a little heavier up front than the 2nd gen and will result in a softer ride than the 3rd gen specific 5100s will likely produce once they become available.

Hey James, I've researched the heck out of this particular subject and what I've learned (forming my own opinion from LOTS of different people's) is that the 5100's are great and CAN work for the 3rd gen (FOR NOW), but it's still TBD on any affects later down the road. Therefore, I'm just gonna play it safe and wait until the summer (what Bilstein Co told me) for when they come out with a compatible shock. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I'll be patient. I'm planning to run the stock shocks for a while. Maybe right after the warranty expires.

I also noticed, we basically have the same truck. Haha!

There's tons of threads on 5100s, search through them and youll see the amount of lift they give the 3rd gen.
