I have definitely put mine in some bad situations, usually when out in the woods checking tree cams, tree stands, or feeders. The only thing that bade them bad situations is the good ol' Dunlop Grandtreck tires, that's why I can't wait until I get the money together to get my tires and lift. :D

I have this habit of following people into things that in retrospect, I'd just as soon have NOT drove into. Used to be the other way around....I was the one in the front of the line driving into bottomless pits, etc....

Now days I keep thinking I'm supposed to act like I have some sense. It's just an act.....

Stock isn't that limiting compared to fully modded out trucks you see on this site. When you start adding front lockers or solid front axels is where a great deal of separation begins showing up. Most cats don't have either, just a rear locker at the most.

Good tires and a good line will allow you to keep up with most other Tacomas. All the armor that people associate with trucks being "not stock" only makes it safer for your body panels and undercarriage.

Tl/dr: stock tacos are very capable.

My favorite saying over the years has been, "The most important part on a 4wd is the loose nut holding the steering wheel".

A little attitude and a willingness to push close to the limits parts abuse now and then will make a huge difference.

I have been pleasantly surprised why my stock Tacoma can do. First I thought, no way it will make it... then it just goes to work and gets it done. Good line and follow advice.

My first Toyota was a new 1984 SR5 22R regular cab, long bed. I was coming off ownership of 3 Jeeps, and can remember being so impressed at what that truck could do. My current Taco is #5. Before this one, I had a 3/4-ton Dodge, a 3/4-ton GMC, and a Toyota Tundra. I remember the first few days I had this truck, I was similarly impressed as I was back in 1984. It's a very capable little truck. I'm just not as aggressive with it as I was when I was in my late 20's.

My daughter and her husband are buying a house there. Should close next week. I'm about 55 miles southwest of you.

Welcome. This thread doesn't get much activity.

You will probably have to get south to do some exploring. Also, badlands is not that far from you. Check the link in my signature. There is usually a few trips over there.
