Yep you are correct and I'm wrong. Just re-read the manual and my old eyes missed the change. My 3rd Gen 2 so I just skimmed it the first time through. Sorry Racemedic.

This is good information to have. Thanks. I had a 2010 RAV4 with the smart key and it took me forever to find out how to reset that maintenance light. With the smart keys, you have to have your foot on the brake for it to crank when you press the start button. Took me forever to find out how to get the "ignition" to come on without cranking, just keep the foot off the brake when you press the start button, lol. It was that simple. I cannot for the life of me remember if resetting the maintenance light was detailed in the owner's manual on my RAV4, but it is in my owner's manual for my 2015 Tacoma, on page 365. I'll see if I can get the photo to upload. image.jpg

    Thanks for the information.
Had no idea how to get the light reset.
Hopefully someday I'll be able to share some wisdom.

I figured this out the hard way last night. My 2011 Owner's Manual says put it on "Odometer". Editing error. Should have looked here first.

*2016 Toyota Tacoma Reset maintenance Data = turn to accessory mode, (power on without foot on brake) then hold down trip Odometer needle and turn on car "without" foot on brake again. Will still be in accessory mode but should reset.

Thank you for posting the tip Mod.
I take it you are suggesting I start using synthetic oil starting with my first oil change? Also, this is probably a dodo question but since this is a brand new truck with only 30 miles (Tacoma Access Cab w/V6 Auto Trans) on it and the one I had for over 20 years was an '89 Toyota 4x4 Hi-Lux, standard with a 22RE engine; I haven't looked yet to see if it has any grease nipples. Has it or are grease nipples a thing of the past with most vehicles??
    Thank you.

Be sure you don't have free oil changes through your dealer... But yes, full synthetic only

I just had my 3rd Toyota care maintenence done about a month ago. The Maintenence light didn't come on until today. Is this normal? Does this mean the dealer didn't reset the system after doing the oil change?

Just finished taking care of the major 60K maintenance items (plugs, filters, brake pads, engine & tranny fluids- I used fully synthetic MAG 1 products) on my "new to me" 2012 , so this tip was quite useful. Fast and easy, worked like a charm. Hearty thanks to the OP!

K&N air filter system, muffler change to straight through type (Too loud for my taste, will soon go back to stock style muffler). A/T style BF Goodrich tires.

What if the procedure doesn't make the light stop flashing? Also, my check engine light is on. Any ideas as to why?

    Hello All!

Just wondering if I should be worried that my maintenance required light is on. It flashes about 4 or 5 times when I start my truck and shuts off. I changed my oil around 73,000 miles, currently at 77,350. Maybe change oil? or maybe something else? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It’s a simple reminder light that comes on after a set period of miles, nothing to worry about. The procedure to reset it is in your manual.

It flashes about 500 miles before service is due. When service is due it comes on solid.
