Miller spool guns - looking for feedback

Hey all,
I've got a Millermatic 211 that I've been using for a few years now, primarily just flux-core wire, nothing special, I haven't bothered setting it up with gas -- yet. But I've been getting curious about doing some aluminum fab projects.

Miller makes a series of spool guns for MIG welding aluminum, I'm curious if any folks here have used a spool gun from Miller or other companies, and the use of the guns. What series aluminum do you weld with what wire? I've never worked with aluminum aside from drilling and tapping it for other applications.

 

Save your money !! While the 211 Is stated to be able to run the Spoolmatic 100 what we call a throw away .

Most people are very unhappy with the performance .

It is a selling point

The Spoolmatic 30A is quite a different story @ $1000.00

But the 211 is wired internal to only run The Spoolmatic 100 @ $250.00

Depends just how often you have a need for Aluminum .

Lots of people hate going from a goose neck Mig Gun to a Spool gun if you need to get into tight places.

Then the 2 Pound spools the only was to get a good price is to buy a case.

 

Another recommendation for the 30A. I like mine. Works great.

I have no idea about the 100.

 

My neighbor has a 211 and welds aluminum pretty often, I'll ask him what gun he uses. Generally comes out pretty good looking. He made a bumper for his Taco from scratch.

 

Subbed for info, we have a 211 with spool gun (Never used it), but I want to get a TIG machine because I hate spool guns.

 

It all comes down to just how much Aluminum Mig welding you need to do.

Dragging two gas cylinders around can be a pain Then getting the hoses mixed up can cause interesting results !!

Then getting used Aluminum clean enough to weld can cause whole new strings of words to be invented
