We used to take the canyon instead in the westy, this summer we are headed to Princeton from Kamloops but I'm staying low on 5a.
    We tow a 19ft right around 5000lbs..

I was wondering how it would do going through the snow shed section before the old toll booths. Canyon makes sense. I'd be looking at about 3500lbs. I do a lot of fishing around Logan Lake, not too far to travel from home for a short stay.

    Do you have a scanguage?
I watch mine on the highway to keep an eye on engine and transmission temps while driving.
I've seen both jump up pretty quick when you start hitting hills.. I avoid doing mountain passes as much as possible.
Even though it's another hour and another 50km taking the canyon is going to be much easier on your truck.

I don't have one, but after reading your post, probably will. Makes sense to keep an eye on those temps, considering where we live and tow.

Yes. I used to hit the Coke with my 06 and 19' travel trailer. It handled it fine both up and down as long as you don't mind winding up your engine and listening to some high RPM's and watching the fuel gauge drop. I used to get horrible mileage with this thing on the hwy - especially going up and down the coast mountains. I had airbags on my 06 and while they wore good for levelling the load, I found they hopped a lot and rode like shit. I have Dakars and Timbrens now on my 2013 and I think they would have handled the trailer much better.

Did you have any questions in particular?

But I have since downsized and I don't even feel the load at all.

edit - I see your post was a few months old. Did you wind up towing on the coke in the snow? How did they truck handle it? I hauled my trailer on some snowy hill climbs and I went pretty damn slow on the way down steep grades.
