I am a man that loves pizza. I will make time for it haha. I was surprised at a lot of the history I learned about this semester. Wyoming did a good job of hiding some important figures.

 

Wyoming has so much cool history. Even just the cool road sign things are pretty awesome.

 

I think it just pulls away. Mine did a little when I wanted to run the mic for the head unit up to the rear view mirror. Be careful tho. I think its glued.

Is this to run the ham antenna wire? Where are you going to locate the antenna? Near the 3rd brake light?

 

Ive never done it. Should be pretty simple though.

DPRS is such a waste. I think you're referring to DSTAR, which is different.

To answer your question Mike, this is more or less right. For the money, it's the best thing out there for an analog dual band rig. It's fairly easy to add aprs functionality should it be desired, and arguably Kenwood's are the only radio's that meet the fcc requirement for crossband repeat. It's a great first radio to start out with, and what I wish I still owned. I made the mistake of selling mine to @92shawman. Although, I am glad it ended up with a friend who has gotten into the hobby as well.

Nothing is glued. You don't need to drop the headliner to install a NMO. They're designed to be installed from the top. You don't need to sand anything to get a good ground; the mount has "teeth" that will cut through the paint to contact metal, similar to how star washers work.

You only need to pull the a and b/c pillar trim panels on one side of the vehicle (the side you want to run the cable, and side of the seat you're going to install the radio under). This will allow you to pull the headliner down far enough to fish the cable out.

A word of caution: Make sure you drill the hole such that it does not go through the spiderweb of reinforcement panels, or you will have a miserable time making it waterproof. Use an appropriate punch or step drill, and use masking tape around the hole, with a ridge shaped like a mini volcano to catch loose shards. Otherwise you will scratch the fuck out of your clear coat trying to brush the chips off your roof. Locate the hole in the center of your roof, to minimize directional bias. For a 2m antenna you ideally want at a minimum 19.685" R circle around the antenna. Mine's slightly towards the rear to reduce the unicorn look, though. But that was mostly to avoid a crossmember.

All said and done the install takes ~1hr. You could do it in half the time if you're not terribly neurotic.

 

Where would you locate the radio if not under one of the seats? Right now I have an amp under each seat.

 

Looks like buying that kit from Amazon is still cheaper becuase free shipping. Giga Parts at least want almost $12 for shipping so it ends up about $5 more than Amazon.

 

Probably under your fridge. You've got unused space under it between the cubby and amp, right? The general criteria is an area that maximizes airflow and minimizes dust buildup, ideally out of direct sunlight. There are plenty of decent enough locations - attached to the rear of the center console, under the dash, attached to the back of the seat, etc.

If he had bought everything from them, then the shipping would have been free, and all of the unit prices would have been less.

Another bit of advice for catching metal shavings before they scratch your paint: tape newspaper down around the hole.

Hardest part is getting past drilling a hole in your cab!
