I was asking for info so I could figure out what happened, I was not trying to give you a hard time. By all means don't run the vehicle anymore in its current state, do another oil change, I would also change the transmission filter and fill it back up and see if everything works.

Yea sorry im just a bit pissed at myself haha. Ive already done the oil change I added transmission fluid but I didn't change the transmission filter which is my next and best chance at getting this fixed. I have a bit of optimism because I don't experience issues in any other gears or speeds. Just from a rolling stop to hard acceleration it doesn't to catch the gear immediately.

No, draining the pan does not empty the transmission of fluid, the torque converter holds approximately 2/3rds of the total fluid in the system.

Do a total flush of tranny fluid. You don't say if you have the towing package (more trans. fluid) A flush and fill is not a easy task. Look it up in tutorials. Not a completely bad thing, the WS fluid from the factory is junk anyway, assuming it was never flushed and filled before.
No you're not the first to do this!

I don't have a towing package but I really do appreciate the insight here I will go ahead and work on this first thing tomorrow and see if it improves my current predicament. What would you recommend for the transmission fluid rather than the WS?

I'm partial to synthetics. I've heard good things about (aside from what's in the last link) Mobil1 ATF and Valvoline Maxlife ATF

Whatever you do, be sure you take it to a reputable mechanic, preferably one that you have a repertoire with and can honestly tell them what happened and expect an honest diagnosis. Sorry OP, hope it all works out....at least nothing seized up when you drove it.

Since you drained trans fluid instead of oil I have to ask how you filled trans fluid, Did you have engine RUNNING while adding and checking trans fluid. If you did NOT have engine running while adding and checking trans fluid it is still very low. Not calling you dumb but adding engine oil after oil oil filter is full is done with engine OFF. Check trans while engine is ON.

And I would use a good synthetic ATF.

If it's till having a hard time going into gear it is still low on trans fluid. It is doubtful you did it any damage in that short a time its classic low fluid. Put another qt in it, it will not hurt any thing and most likely will fix it.

Daughter's former boyfriend (my nackname for him became"dipstick") did that to her old Suzuki SUV when it had about 30K miles on it. wouldn't move once they dropped it into gear after backing down the driveway... They had another one of their friends come look at it and he found the problem. They corrected the fluid levels and the car lasted to 160K miles with only routing maintenance. Stuff happens.
