You can still have the ecu replaced under warranty, by having the codes scanned. More than likely it will be a reoccurring problem.

True, I just don't want to go through the hassle for the time being.

It appears the dealer finally got the BSM fixed, after a week of sitting in their shop. Here is the repair order showing what they did. At first they thought it was the sensors and then they were told by the factory there is a broken wiring harness. It seems to work for the time being so fingers crossed. A couple other issues on the new redesign. The inner wheel tubs are half tubs that collect snow, ice and mud. When you hit a bump, the fenders shake and rattle like the front end will fall off. The factory mud flaps are so flimsy they collect snow and ice and do the same thing, rattling and shaking. The OEM floor mats are a waste of money, buy WeatherTech and save a few bucks and be happier with the protection.

Still lots of good points on the new Taco. I'm getting a consistent combined MPG of 21. Solid feel on and off road. The quicksand color is great for my location as it hardly shows the mud and dirt on the dirt gravel back roads.

Mine seems to fail every once in awhile. I have to turn the truck off and back on to clear the failure. It only seems to fail during low light conditions as well. Gonna tell the dealership when I bring it in for the first maintenance visit. I'll let you know what they say/do.

My 2016 Tacoma's BSM started acting up 2 weeks or so after my October purchase. Once the colder weather set in, it didn't fail again until the warmer weather started in March. Now with the warmer weather being more frequent, the failures are occurring more frequently. Other than this issue my new Taco is awsum!

I had the issue of BSM not available about 2 weeks ago after some light snow here in Colorado. Brought it to the dealer and they first claimed that nothing was wrong. After I got them to read the codes, they said that the left rear sensor was showing error. After consulting with big Toyota, they were told to recalibrate the BSM system.

So far so good, I'm just hoping it sticks.

I had a code for one of the sensors as well. Dealership opened a TAS case and talked with Toyota Tech. Toyota advised them to recalibrate mine as well. A few weeks have passed and I've been leaving my BSM on to see if it would fail, but so far so good.

UPDATE: They had to replace the L/R BSM sensor. Took them 5 days to do it, which seems kinda long to me. But, got my truck back and everything seems to working fine for now.

Wonderful Toyota engineering. No one every thought that these trucks would accumulate ice or snow under the rear bumper. Better yet why in the hell would you place non waterproof sensors in the bumper. Stuff like this is making me reconsider the PT option

I took my Taco back to the dealer to get the BSM fixed and after waiting 2 1/2 hours for it to be completed they informed me they would need to keep the truck overnight to finish it. Apparently lots of disassembly to be done to replace whatever they had to replace. Got a free rental and picked up my truck the next day. So far no BSM error messages. (3 weeks and counting...) Still lovin my new truck!
P.S. The service mangler told me there is a service bulletin out on this issue so bring your truck in and get it fixed!

I took my truck into the dealer the other day to check and diagnose the BSM system that has failed....(It failed within a month of driving off the lot... I had not even turned it on at that point and it was snowy and cold....slush and crap froze onto the rear bumper and the left mirror indicator light started to flash on/off...This continued over a few days and when I turned the switch ON, the right mirror indicator seemed to work correctly, but not the left...still flashing....Then next time I took the truck out, I turned on the switch and there was NO light in the switch and NO flashing light in the left mirror...seems like no power to the system)...

Long story, I know; however, I took it in and they cannot figure it out..."no TSB's" they say..."we have to call and consult with Toyota to see what they want us to do"....

No response yet, but only 2 days since I had it in....

Will fill ya'll in when I get more..

    Toodles..:fingerscrossed:

So I'm having issues with my BSM but I'm not getting an error message. For some reason only on the passenger side it will randomly not register vehicles. This is really apparent when I'm in a lane that is moving faster on the free way, but it also occurs when vehicles are passing me. Sometimes it will miss one vehicle in line, other times it can miss 4 or 5 vehicles then register the next one. Anyone else having issues like this?

I agree with you.. I did not want it in the first place.. Stupid Toyota packaging items together into a "bundle" of crap..!!
