I have always heard about the clay bar and never used it. I work in a chemical plant in south louisiana and my poor brand new black 2015 DCSB was getting covered in over spray. well, i have been washing the truck once a week since i bought it. a few weeks ago, i went the whole weekend without washing it and the over spray was baked on my paint.
so i went get a clay kit (griots garage) and went to work!
it took me 2 and a half hours to clay my whole truck and then an additional hour to hand wax it with mcguires carnauba wax but look how good my paint looks now!

I did the same thing to my truck about 3 months ago. makes a huge difference in the look of your truck. My arms were dead by the time I finished.

Look into Megs Ultimate Liquid next time. It's a sealer (not really a wax). It Might give you a little better longevity down south. Truck looks good. Thanks for the heads up on the griots clay.

I clay 2 times a year using zaino brother products. Well worth it.

Sealers are generally 100% synthetic (man made) products. Waxes have a natural wax component to them (usually carnauba).

Waxes tend to have a warm/wet look to them. Sealers tend to be more bright/glossy (candy-looking shine).

Sealers are generally easier to apply and remove and have much better durability.

In the case of Meguires Ultimate Wax... They complicated it. It's actually a sealer. They just call it a "wax" because most people don't know what a sealer is. Yet they also know that most people will be happier with a sealer anyway (because it's easier to apply/remove and it will typically last longer). So, they give you a sealer but call it a wax.

Another way to look at it... In short- sealers are "synthetic waxes".

You might find something useful in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/paint-protection-advice-wax-and-sealer.401094/
Happy to answer any questions if I'm able! If you're into detailing, I'd look into sealers. They're a game changer. The synthetic products have come a long way in the last few years.

I recently used Duragloss 111 along with 601 bonding agent and it blew me away. I can't even believe the shine is possible without machine polishing. Amazing stuff. There are lots of good products out there now.

I clay once a year and use Wolfgang 2.0 sealer once a year. I prefer the sealer over the wax because it is much easier to use and the sealer does last about 10 to 12 months.

If you think your paint cleaned up good after using a clay bar try using it on your windshield you will be surprised . Your windshield will be so clean it will look invisible

Ha! I discovered this trick recently! It seriously does look invisible when clayed. Add some rainX or Aquapel and it's pretty amazing.

Mothers detail spray works well on windshields and allows the water to bead up

Any time I've used detail spray or wax on my windshield, I get this weird straight reflection line from top to bottom. It's fine when out of direct sunlight. But when facing the sun, the weird hazy line shows up.

Ask Google. Lots of reading/youtube/detailers forums to study.
