I have an 07 Off Road TRD. 175K. Just changed the rear diff and added Mobil1 75W90 synthetic Gear Lubricant LS. I know I have the e locker rather than the LS diff. Is the LS synthetic going to hurt the non LS diff? Can I use the same in the front diff and transfer case?
    FWIW mine took 3.4 qts.

@zilwin Should be no problem to run LS type in a non-LS diff. Just cant go the other way around. I also used LS type with auto-LS not mechanical.

So the manual (at least on mine) calls for 3.12 quarts of fluid. Your think just 3 is fine?

Mine took a little over 3 qt. Probably about 3-1/4-3-1/3. Could probably get away with 3 if you didn't let it trickle out as long as I did.

My magnet was pretty good looking. Two tiny shards and a thin film of metal "goop" in the form of shavings. Nothing alarming for almost 100k, IMO. I went with the Mobil1 mentioned above.

This is a GL-5 fluid. Most manual transmission call for GL-4.
Related to the the EP additives in the GL-5 fluid being sulphur based and this can eat away at bronze parts like the synchro rings in manual transmissions.

    From my owners manual
    Manual transmission
    Gear oil API GL-3 (GL-4)

You probably want something like MT-90 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil

"Safe for brass synchros, as it lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils that cause damage"

I meant the manual for the truck. I ended up buying the 4th quart to get the last 0.12 quarts for the rear diff.

Yeah seriously! I'm addicted to Prime. My best drunk prime purchase was a pack of 10 emergency blankets...

I apologize if this has already been addressed in the preceding 107 pages of posts, but use a 15/16 socket instead of a 24mm socket for the differential fill and drain plugs on the Tacoma. Also be sure to use a hex socket and not a 12-point socket.
