Hi I hastily bought a lift kit which has coil spacers for the front a couple years ago for my 09 DCSB and have been waiting for it to come out of warranty to install it.

Now she's almost at 100k and it's time to molest my truck!

After some research I found that coil spacers with stock shocks cause a stuff ride up front.

However, I'm curious if I could run the 3" coil spacers with 5100's to eliminate the rock hard ride?

Just as s side note, I'm also getting UCA's for my lift when I order the shocks

    Any insight is appreciated!

If I'm thinking about this correctly, using an in coil spacer is pretty much achieving the same thing as using a different setting on the 5100s, and therefore will be giving the same results as having a different snap ring setting on the 5100s. I've never run 5100s on 2.5", but many say it is quite stiff (as you may have read on here). It may be true that using a 3" coil spacer will make it even worse.

Seeing as you already have 5100s, you're getting UCAs, and you want 3" of lift with good ride, you may just want to go ahead and get some OME 885 coils with top plate spacers and run the 5100s at 0. The coils net ~2.5" of lift and the spacers will get you to full 3" and you won't have to worry about the ride with preloaded springs.

+1 on what he said. You can pick up a pair of 885s on Amazon for $160.

If you read long enough, you'll see where top plate spacers are the cause of the common cold, as well as responsible for the Kennedy assassination, WWII, and ISIS.....

Fact of the matter is, they do NOT cause a stiff ride. They simply relocate whatever struts you have in place to lift the truck.....You'll get EXACTLY the same ride as you had prior to installing them.

Coil spring spacers will preload the existing coils and cause a harsh ride. There is a distinct difference between the 2 types of spacers.

Not sure exactly which type you are referring to.....

If you buy 5100's, you will NOT need (nor WANT) spacers of ANY configuration. Either use the various settings of the 5100's with stock coils, OR better yet, use a longer coil to gain lift. (ie, OME 883, 884, 885, etc....)

@Trout Guy This is actually true, if you have the 5100s you can preload the 885 for more lift. I am unaware of anything contraindicating the use of top plate spacers with the OME/5100 combo but it is ill advised to use a setting other than 0 with OME coils for reasons that I do not know. Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this...

Ok great info guys, the life have had tip plate spacers and coil pre load spacers as well. I think you all made the decision for me. 885 springs it is!

Atleast I'll be able to use the transfer/diff drop and AAL that came with the kit so it's not a total wash!
