You can just buy two 3" kits and combine them

Take your lump sum, trade in your 5 lug and get a 6 lug... do it right on the right vehicle. Really, you aren't going to be happy with your results. Theres a reason the 5 lugs are low and there are no big lifts made for them, because the truck is not designed for it.

BETTER YET: Take your lump sum, go on craigslist, pick up a 1st gen thats lifted and done right, then you have two rigs..

    ^^This.

Keep the 5 lug stock as your commuter/daily driver, use the lump sum to pick up an older Toyota pickup or Tacoma with 4x4 to use as a trail rig/weekend warrior.

Sounds like the 5 lug will never quite be what you want it to, and all that money spent on trying to make it so could make you so much happier with a truck that was designed for it (4x4 or Prerunner)

You can pick up a used early 90's 4x4 Toyota pickup or 4runner that runs well for 4 or 5 grand around here, less if you're willing to take a bigger risk on it.

my .2 cents anyhow, welcome to TW!

Obviously I don't know a lot about the technical aspect of cars, but a friend suggested I combine a body lift, with a suspension lift to get the height I want.
    Is that even possible?

Or go mid travel and put a little preload on your shocks and just be suspension lift not body lift. All you pretty much need is total chaos uca and some 2.0-2.5 shocks like saw's, kings, or fox

#1 - you'll have lots of ugly frame revealed in a body-lift to eyeball.
#2 - you'll have to extend wiring looms, steering shafts, fuel-fill hose, shift linkages etc.
#3 - there is no benefit with a body-lift in this application. None. The suspension is still at a 2.75" maximal level lift. All you'll accomplish in doing so, is undersirably raising your centre of gravity.

The smart thing would be ready lift, new total chaos control arms, new icon front shocks and a 1" body lift. It won't hurt it that much

1" body lift may be necessary for clearance of 33" tires. That's all i would personally consider.

Not sure how much you have as a 'lump sum' .. but look into the cost of a new third member (plus locker) if a manual transmission, or the cost of regearing your stock third member (plus locker) if automatic transmission.. that may give pause to reconsider the 33" tire option, right there.

    I think he's lifted and lowered a 5-lugger a couple times.

Look up procomp, fabtech, BDS, or maybe you can go with a 3" which I wish I did. And if you want 35s you'll need to to do some :sawzall: anyways. Welcome to TW! Have fun with an empty wallet! And you will need to regear unless you want a gutless beast! I have a BDS 6" but it's a 6 lug 4x4

Sorry op, I figured you would get my sarcasm, didn't intend to hurt anyone's feelings.

In all seriousness, its not worth trying to turn a 5 lug into an offroad capable vehicle in my opinion.

Not trying to turn it into an off-road truck, I just like how it looks.
