1962 Chevy C10 Build

I would like to introduce y'all to the newest member of the family. A 1962 Chevy C10 short bed stepside. I'm hoping I posted this in the right part of the forum. She's a little rough looking but for being 54 years old she's in really good shape and just needs a little love.

I found the truck on Craigslist and got the truck for a very very good deal. Transmission was just rebuilt and the truck has a brand new clutch. Yes it's a 3 on the tree! All gauges work. Not to mention all lights work including the lights behind the dash. Truck turns over on the first crank and sounds really good mechanically. I have a lot of plans for it and will keep this thread updated. In the meantime enjoy the pics.

 

Great project, because your kids and grand kids will never remember getting 40 mpg in a car. but they will remember riding in that truck.

 

Cool truck. My first truck was my Dad's 66 Chevy. It was a 6 also, and it was cool being able to see the ground as you peered down into the engine compartment. Great to work on, and fun to drive, especially that three on the tree! Just don't get in an accident with it. Pretty unsafe!

 

Love these older trucks. Here's the one my dad has had since he was 15. Been trying to restore it for a while, just hasn't had the time.

Isn't that the truth. My uncle had an old truck like this and as a kid I loved riding in that truck.

 

No kidding. The engine compartment in these old trucks aren't crammed with electronics. They are so big that you could climb inside and work on the engine.

 

What year is your dads truck? Looks a little newer. Well newer as not at 62 haha. Looks like it is in really good shape.

 

It's a 68. Been a Texas truck all it's life so very little rust other than the rocker panels.

 

I am 56 years old and i can still remember riding in my Uncles old Ford Ranchero with a hole in the floorboard big enough to throw a cat through it.

 

That's great. Rust is the biggest killer of these old trucks. Mine has one little spot of surface rust on the under part of the passenger side of the cab but it's not bad at all. Can easily be sanded off.

 

My neighbor just put the finishing touch on a 70 GMC 2500 2wd with a factory Dana 60 rear end. I love it.

 

That's awesome!! Good memories like those last a lifetime.

 

Those old GMC's are so nice. I picked up a 87 GMC 2500 single cab long bed 4x4 about 10 years ago. Kept it for a year or so and put it up for sale to get a vehicle that was a little more economical. Kind of regret getting rid of it.

Your truck looks great. That would be a great project because I love those old straight 6s. Is that a later model bed on it? Those fenders look like they might be off of a 68-70 model.

Nice looking truck! The old rustic look to these old trucks are very appealing but at the same time having a restored c10 sounds just as appealing. Good luck on whatever y'all decide to do with it.
