charosenz- your TB is much older than mine (06), so I'd rather not give you bad info. Anybody have a similarly aged TB who can answer?

That's what I figured - I do 99% of my own maintenance but if I do it it will come at a inconvenient time and I'll have to remove the manifold to get at it - with the engine out it should just be 4 bolts out and in. I don't know what the average life of a plastic pipe is but I intend to keep the truck until it dies or I do which ever comes first so its bound to crack sometime. Thanks 4 the reply.

I'm going to revive this thread kind of. Just an FYI the Water Bypass pipe you used is actually for a different engine. The correct one is in my other post. I'll post the number in just a few min.

Update. Tacoma under the knife and Toyota is footing the bill due to selling me a part not designed for the 2.7 Tacoma.

How much was the metal pipe from Toyota? I'm tempted to replace it before I have a problem. All the BMW's I've had have had random plastic cooling system failures, so I'm against plastic...

Sorry to get back with you so late. I don't remember the cost on the pipe itself. What I do remember is the pain in the butt other was to replace. You will need a new intake manifold gasket as well.

I have a 2004 and after coming across a thread like this before I went and checked mine because I figured I'd better replace it before i have a problem 40 miles from no where. It sure seems to be steel, not plastic and I know it has never been replaced. When did they switch over to plastic for this part. Does anyone know?

Sometime between yours (2004) and mine (2006) they switched to plastic. Ain't that some BS? I'm not sure if my replacement was for an earlier year (like yours) or not. The replacement tube had a little tab on it about mid-way between the thermostat housing and the back (near firewall), so I was curious myself as to what that was for. It was not in the way and the plastic version (the one that failed) did not have the tab. Looked like a wire clamp or tube retainer of some sort would attach to it.

Plastic sucks for just about anything as far as I am concerned. Especially on a part like this coolant tube. I still can't get over plastic radiators but they do seem to work.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Had a little hurricane to manage! LOL I got my part from the dealership. I had to call around to find one and ended up driving about 45 miles to get one. Well worth it.

Whoops, sorry! I see that you got it done. I just added coolant, ran the engine and kept adding it as the engine "burped" thru the radiator fill valve. It will force the air up to the top of the radiator per design, but add as much as you can at first. Keep some coolant with you and top off as needed, but shouldn't need too much. Glad my post helped!

Thank you, I seem to have some air in the system....as on a longer drive steam is coming back into the coolant bottle, it seems to be getting less but still happening. Any suggestions...someone mentioned taking one of the pipes off from the back of the by pass pipe but im really not sure.. ANY help would help. Thx

We'll have to wait for some else to chime in as I didn't have this problem. I'm not sure where/how you got air trapped in the system. I mean, mine completely puked all the coolant out when I changed my lower radiator hose, thermo and coolant tube. My only concern is that you have an air-leak somewhere that's allowing for air to be sucked into the system. I'm dubious that's the case because you'd probably have a coolant leak versus an air-vacuum situation. Very odd. I would have thought that the system would have purged any trapped air by now. Hopefully your engine isn't over-heating (i.e. too little coolant circulating in the engine, etc). I assume you would have mentioned that if so.
