I have the same exact saw. I consider it to be the best "all around" saw on earth.

Anybody have experience with the Stihl MS271?
Looking for a saw with a little more power than the MS 170 that I'm currently using.

Stihl is running a sale on the MS250 right now. I keep seeing the adds, 299 for a brand new saw doesn't seem too bad.

Echo 440 and 670. I've had them for 17 and 15 years. I burn 12 face cord of hardwood per year and these saw have never let me down. My friends, who have Husky, johnsered and stihl saws, all respect my Echo because they always run and never need tuned.

Husqvarna 51: By far the best I've ever owned. This thing is 20 years old and runs like a dream. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Husqvarna 455 Rancher autotune: Pretty powerful. The autotune carb was horrible until I got it replaced under warranty. Now it fires right up at any altitude and powers through big logs like butter.

Bonus answer: I keep 3 chains for each saw all sharpened using a Harbor Freight electric chain sharpener. The plug in the back of the Tacoma powers this little $29 device just fine in the field. I have to say it's one of the best HF purchases I've made.

Did you know the XL-12 got it's name because it weighed 12 lbs? I worked for a small logging outfit near Trenton in the early 80s and we were all running the Homelite XL-76. These were the top saws of the day. Wish I had one today.

Husqvarna Rancher 460. Use it for general farm and lease work which usually amounts to enough firewood for the year.

Dolmar was bought by Makita about 10 years ago so if you buy a Makita saw... it's a Dolmar!
