I bought an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 before my truck was delivered with a surprise (and free) OEM tonneau cover.

The OEM is a great cover if you're going to keep it on all the time - the release mechanism and security is better than any aftermarket cover and it doesn't interfere with bed rail accessories. I've been through a few high-pressure touchless car washes and spring rain storms so far and besides the odd drip here and there, it's pretty weatherproof.

However, I bought the truck to haul motorcycles, and the hassle of the bolt to remove the cover, the permanently mounted tabs (close to MC fairings), the weight and the unsightly look of the chopped bed caps has me convinced...

I just bought OEM caps and plan on removing and selling the OEM cover in favor of the Extang.

    HTH

Edit: no rattle or noise, to answer your question- quite sold.

Thank you tomchuk, that helps me. I do have a weird question, can you stand on the OEM cover? my kids think my truck is their new jungle gym. It does bring me joy to see that they like my truck just as much as me.

Guess it depends how big your kids are. I'm about 200lbs, and wile I wouldn't jump up and down on the cover, I've put my whole weight, kneeling on the 1st panel folded back on the second - it was sturdy enough that I wasn't concerned. I'd probably wager that a single panel could just about support my weight.

If they break it, take it out of their allowance and chalk it up as a life lesson. God knows we've all learned the hard way about exceeding tolerances. Some lessons are best learned early in life.

The link does not provide any info if it fits or is designed for the 2016 Tacoma.

No rattle. The thing is solid. Folds up in threes and you can fold it twice back and secure it open. I love mine.

Bought a Lund 95086 Genesis Tri-Fold Tonneau cover for my 2016 sb and it fits horrible, at the tail gate the cover hangs over both sides, looks like it belongs on another truck not the taco. :(

Going to send it back, I am looking for a soft roll up cover, so I can toss my dirt bike in back. Any one have a good cheap one that they can recommend.

Been happy with my tonneau pro tri-fold. Only thing I did was add straps to bed cleats up front and in center to add more security for frwy action. Just the clamps on rear section for easy access to the rear section. Not sure what they got for 2016s........

Better spend a few extra dollars and get the right one the first time you order. They also have one for the 5 foot bed.

I entertained the idea of the OEM cover, and my thoughts are the same as yours. I ended up with the Solid Fold 2.0 and could not be happier.

So how do you haul a bike with it folded up?

I take off the cover when I have to load my bikes. That is part of the reason why the OEM cover doesn't really work for me. It's heavy (75lbs) and needs a tool to remove. Plus with the cover removed, the striker bolts stick out that and that may be a problem for me.

Thanks, that just helped me out on not buying an oem cover. I just took off my Lund and that's exactly what I was thinking. If I'm hauling my bikes, the cover was easy to take off. Now I just have to find a cover that's in my price range and looks better then the Lund.

Could someone with a vinyl cover please let me know how the car wash situation works? Do you stick to touchless, hand-wash only, or is the automatic car wash ok?

    Thanks!

Lay it down underneath if just one.....Fold up cover and leave it in garage if more than 1 bike. My mounts fit under the cover.

I only handwash my vehicles. The vinyl cover looks brand new every time I do. I use a soft bristle brush on the end of water hose.

Cool thanks. Anyone runs their vinyl cover through automatic car washes? Wondering if that's a no-no.
