I can't seem to find a definitive answer on what the maximum mounting depth is for the door speakers (front and back). I am looking at 6x9 components (some 6.5" as well), and many of them have a top mount depth of 3.5". I know that you can get/make adapters, but I want want to know at what point will I get in trouble with the windows hitting the magnet, or the speaker slapping against the door panel.

If it's for your '12 I have no idea, but my '03 is good for about 2 3/4 inches from the window rail with some room to build out.

Just a bunch of old crap
In my '06, I made some rings out of 1/2" MDF board so I could install deeper speakers than factory. There was room behind the panel fo that much extra clearance. Sorry, I don't know the dimensions though.

i did Memphis 6x9 components. made 1.5" thick adapters. fit fine with some minor trimming to the door panel. no glass contact

cheap and sound good to me though i will likely replace the tweeters. these are in a 3 way system. stock upper door speaker replaced with a Dayton RS75 midrange.

something like this will work well

Nice! That definitely helps. Glad you chimed in. In my searches I kept coming across your posts, and basically had come to the same conclusion that you did. Three way up front (6x9, 3.5" in the stock tweeter location, and tweets in the sails), while keeping the stock deck.

Debating on getting an 8 channel amp, behind a mini-dsp, and going active with no rear speakers, or building custom crossovers for the front, and getting a 5 channel amp.

Also, have have yet to see anyone on TW use/build a TruckTuba, which I think I would like to try for the sub box.

If anyone else has ideas, in all ears.

This mount needs modifications made to it so it wont contact the door card! I throw up a screen shot of my new model when it is done. Contact me if you want the .dxf and you can throw them into a cnc router.

This will work much better. I am developing some stress marks in my door card around the speaker area need to take them off and see what is going on with that. My speakers have a top mount depth of 3.5"

Thanks for the design, I appreciate it. What brand and model 6x9s are you using?

The sound pretty good, really good mid bass with sealed door. The tweeters are on the bright side at high volumes though they do sound nice all around. I mounted them in the sail panel with the supplied mounts they seem to be about 30 degrees. I would like to give them a bit more power then what I am currently running 115 rms per side but it is hard finding a dual channel amp that puts out that much and fits under the seat. Overall i am pretty happy with them how ever it would be nice to do a band pass and see how the mids do no crossed at 3200 hz.

Sonic was out of the RE's, so I'm going to give these Infinity's a shot.
