Man oh man! There's so much more than truck talk on TW! Using that tapatalk app, you don't see this stuff!

So here's my (former) garden. When we got the call to move/new jobs, I told my husband the on,y things I'd miss are my great neighbors and my back yard.

Before and after. From the back fence line, looking at the back of the house

Love this. Ill have to take some pics of mine tomorrow. I just planted spinach, cucumbers, pumpkins, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers and a few kinds of lettuce. Planted a cover crop of fava beans that I turned over a month ago and Im waiting to plant that half of the garden soon. We finally had some rain in my area (Santa Barbara County CA) and my blueberries are growing again. Best way I have found to keep unwanted critters out is a motion sensor water sprinkler. No more raccoons, skunks and cats. Probably would work great on rabbits too :D

@Cuffs What's the new yard look like? Have you started converting it yet?

Totally different environment here. Above was New Orlean, urban, and started with a clean slate.

Foothills of CA, steeply sloped average, mostly left natural. Thinking I'm leaving it that way mostly. Will put in a few raised beds and a small chicken coop next season (only been in this house since Oct)

    But I have this view...

Nice. Never had a desire to move to CA (I disagree with the gov't on some key points), but parts of it are certainly pretty. When they're not on fire, that is.

Oh believe me, It was for the job, not the state. They regulate EVERYthing here. But the folks in this area are much nicer than all them city people!

Always thought working for a park would be a fun job. During the off season. Not so much the rest of the time, lol.

Not exactly gardening, more 'farmstead' I guess. But one of our hens went broody about a month ago. I figured I'd wait a week to see if she snapped out of it (March is early and she's not even a year old yet), but she kept 'setting' on eggs and was definitely 'in the zone' even though we were collecting every night.

Took this picture without any zoom; I stuck the camera in her face and she didn't so much as blink and they're usually pretty skittish around the big black eyeball.

So finally I said the heck with it and built her a broody box so she could set without the other hens climbing all over her trying to lay their eggs (because she'd gone broody in the 'preferred' laying box) and let her sit it out. Came home today and was checking on her food and water and thought I heard peeping. So I opened the lid on her broody box and gave her a poke and she stood up and out scampered these guys:

Although from the looks of it, none of them are hers, lol.

can you set a live trap out? otherwise you could try some of that animal repellant...

I don't trap, because I don't handle wild animals lol. I need to be in a place I can pop em in the head with my .22.

I'll try some of the repellant as my new seedling emerge. We'll see if that works.

    :D You are a chick-pa!

I want to do chickens when I move to a new place. Nothing better than the sounds of chickens.

You dont have to handle them with a live trap, just pop them in the head and dump them in out in the woods/brush or even a dumpster...
