    Hey all,

First time poster here but I am fairly active over on Ih8mud since I have a few 60 series land cruisers.

So I am going to be taking over my aunts trusty worn out 1995 regular cab tacoma this summer and I'd like to go ahead and jump the gun on a few things that need to be addressed.

It's a 4wd, 5-speed manual with the 5vz V6 and keeps ticking like a rolex. I am fairly aquatinted with the rig since I've been the one tinkering with it since she purchased it used around 10 years ago. Been through the timing belt/ wp fiasco (without a tb tensioner tool which sucked d**k!!), valve cover gaskets, control arms, etc.

The one issue that I cannot find any information on is the odometer stopped at 299999.9 around 5 years ago which I don't know if it was just a coincidence or if this is common? I highly doubt that it was the latter, but ya never know. All of my internet searching has lead me to numerous threads that deal with the odo, trip odo & speedo going out as a unit. But nothing on just the odo going out by itself... I assume its a gear driven issue, but I don't want to dive into it before getting some pre-game advice.

She averages 500 miles a week driving x 52 weeks x 5 years equals around 130,000 undocumented miles, and as a Toyota owner I take pride in reliability despite miles so I'd like to fix this and watch it keep on ticking!

Thanks for any help/ guidance in advanced, and I am super exited to becoming apart of the Tacoma community once the keys get handed over!

Here are some pics of the odo for reference:IMG_4938.jpgIMG_4939.jpg

I did see that, seemed to be primarily prius/camry/ and corolla's with the digital dash like you said. Didn't come up with any Tacomas with the mechanical odo doing this... Thanks for the insight though!

Took a trip to the Wrench-a-Part this past weekend and found a '97 3rd gen 4-runner w/ the correct gauge setup. Figured out how to adjust the Odometer numbers by taking out a pin that holds the rollers in.. I will plug it in next week when I see the truck again and report back how it works out!

    Gauge Cluster from the yard:

Used a sewing needle to pop out the locking pin, the little star wheels fell out but it was pretty easy to align them again.

Set it to 395k because I want to see it roll over 400k... Also spun the gear a "mile" and everything seems to roll good.

I think you may have just solved a problem I've been dealing with for 3 years now.

Any updates on how the 4R cluster worked?

Hey man, it ended up not working for me since my gauges have a mechanical speedometer. Ended up having to get on from the guy above.. The 4-runner gauges may work on a later 4 runner..
