You can find new ones in the states, its just finding them for a reasonable price. Got to do your home work.

 

This and a super siphon hose. Throw away the CARB spout that comes with the can.

Hey I picked through your build thread using search etc got everything on how to install this bed mounted tank, did you ever do the flow test i.e. how long does it take to dump the bedmount tank to the trucks tank? Also I doesn't throw up a code? Like if I leave a gas cap off... it's sealed that well?

 

As for the thread screw metal cans old tech and pain in the butt and oh so fun when you have a full one with tiny leak and no place to dump the gas.. think trash bag stinky dangerous mess.. i own a dozen of these



Was off grid and until I got my solar up and running they are what I used. Are they perfect? No but they dont leak.

 

I'm still saying Scepter MFC FTW

 

Happy with my NATO cans and a Super Siphon. The nozzles aren't bad if you get the proper vented style.

 

This. I have both scepter/ Canada and rotopax.

I'm really liking the scepter cans. I even got a 10L scepter water and used it on a 6 day hunt.
Once I got the cap really tight, it worked great.

Beware of used military Scepter MFC's, usually the can themselves are ok (although beat up pretty good, and sun faded), but the caps are often wrecked and wont seal. New cap assemblies are $30ish. So just keep that in mind when deciding if they are worth it. If you can find them for 20-30 dollars, that is a decent deal, but anything over that I think you might as well buy new. New Scepters are better than any can I have ever seen. JMHO!

 

I hate scepters with a passion. I did ten years in the Army and probably poured 1000+ gallons out of them filling generators alone. The caps are a pita to remove, especially if you fill them at oh dark thirty when it's nice a cool, then go bounce down the trail all day. The donkey dicks always leaked and the seals are shot after about a year on the cap, so you lose half your fuel out of them. I don't understand why civilians like them so much.

I use motocross style cans, and they pour faster, stay sealed, and last for decades.

 

I have a Scepter cap wrench , mine have never leaked and the gaskets still look pristine after 5 years

The cap wrenches we were issued were made of fiberglass and were generally stripped out and didn't work well unless you liked busted knuckles. I found that if you lay them on their side and boot stomp the lid they usually come loose. The internal pressure build up is what locks them on, they need a vent of some sort.

Im sure anything under that kind of use wouldn't last, most wouldn't even come close to the life of the Scepters. When taken care of the Scepters don't leak, are tough, and with my homemade spout work awesome. I also have a cap wrench, and have never had an issue.

 

Ya it's home made. I stole the idea from fly racing, then adapted it to a receiver tube. I also made mine lockable, although they could siphon the fuel out at least I'd have the cans.
